Hands-On | March 2024 Updates

Hands-On | March 2024 Updates

Dear readers,

March was kind of an unusual month for me, filled with travels, vacations, and celebrations that left the content creation in a second plan. ???????????

I was three weeks out of Portugal, exploring different countries and cultures in the Americas. First, I went to the United States to attend the MVP Summit in person, where I met other amazing MVPs and learned about the latest Microsoft technologies. From there, I took a plane to Buenos Aires in Argentina to reunite with family and meet this vibrant city, full of history, art, and gastronomy. From Buenos Aires, I took a ferry to Colonia del Sacramento in Uruguay to learn more about this lovely and once Portuguese town, with its colonial architecture and charming streets. From Colonia, I travelled by car across Uruguay, celebrating my 37 anniversary with family and enjoying the end of summer in the southern hemisphere.

Before embarking on this journey, I managed to publish a few articles and videos about Microsoft 365 that I hope you find useful and interesting.

I hope you enjoy this shorter edition. Please feel free to reach out to me with any feedback or suggestions for future content. Thank you for your continued support! ??

Hands-On SharePoint

One of the latest features that Microsoft has announced for SharePoint pages is the ability to use images as backgrounds in sections. This inspired me to revisit an old technique I had used before to set videos as backgrounds in the page header and apply it to a SharePoint page section. Video backgrounds can add a lot of visual appeal and interactivity to your SharePoint pages. They are especially useful for making company announcements, event promotions, or highlighting important content more engaging and dynamic.

Hands-On Teams

On the Microsoft Teams blog, I co-authored an article with Rene Vlieger , who is an expert on Copilot. In our article, Rene gives an overview of what Copilot is and what factors you should consider before implementing it in your organization. I show how you can use Copilot in Microsoft Teams to enhance your productivity during and after meetings, as well as in channels and chats. If you are curious about Copilot or want to learn how to use it effectively in Teams, I recommend you to check out both parts of our article.

Hands-On Lists

During March I haven’t wrote any article about Microsoft Lists but that doesn’t mean I haven’t worked or produced content about it. If you want to learn about Microsoft Lists and how you can use it to implement business scenarios inside Microsoft Teams have a look to a session I did with Tikit by Cireson that is available in their website.

One of the most exciting news in the Microsoft Lists space is the release of the new Lists Forms, which allows you to customize the layout and fields of your forms easily. This is a huge improvement for creating engaging and user-friendly lists that can capture and display data in various ways. I have been eagerly waiting for this feature since Lists was launched, and I have many ideas for blog posts and videos to show you how to leverage it. However, I have not had the time yet to publish anything about it, so in the meantime, I invite you to watch this YouTube Short with a live demo of the Lists Forms feature. Stay tuned for more content coming soon!

Microsoft MVP Summit

Attending the Microsoft MVP Summit in Seattle in person is always a memorable experience, and even though I can't reveal anything about what's coming, I can assure you that the future is bright and you'll be excited by the new features and updates that Microsoft is working on.?

It was wonderful to see other MVPs again and meet some of them in person for the first time! One of the things that I enjoyed this year, that I can share with you all was the chance to visit and attend some of the sessions in the new buildings that were just completed. Microsoft put up some new signs around campus that were very popular on social media during the event.?

Another thing that I loved about the event, was the opportunity I got to sign a few copies of my books about Microsoft Teams and Microsoft Lists in the Microsoft Library. I'm very happy to know that from now on something that I wrote will stay permanently in the Microsoft Campus.

If you haven't visited the Microsoft Campus or if you want to see the new Campus, keep an eye on my YouTube channel I have some videos that I'll post in the next days.

YouTube Channel

My YouTube channel has been growing steadily thanks to the frequent posting of videos and in March it hit a big milestone, 1000 subscribers! ??

I'm happy to share with you the March video where I show you how to use videos as backgrounds for a SharePoint page section, and at the end of the video I also reveal some tricks that you can use to make your SharePoint pages more impressive for your users. Check it out!

Unselfish Travel Blog

My wife and I both work in technology and in the Microsoft ecosystem. When we're not busy with SharePoint and Microsoft Teams, we like to travel. We enjoy flying to different places and learning about new cultures. We also like to write, so we started a blog together last year where we post our travel stories.

We didn't write any new stories in March, but we added some to our backlog. While we don't publish new posts, you can read about our previous trips on Route 66, Disney Land Paris, Portuguese historical trains, and more.

Thank you for your continued support, and I look forward to connecting with you soon. ??
