Hands-on with Manus

Exciting times in the world of AI! ?? Last weekend I had the opportunity to play around with Manus firsthand, and am curious to watch this product (and its competitors) as it evolves.?

The concept of "vibe coding" is no longer just a buzzword - it's becoming a reality. This is extra-impressive when you consider that Andrej Karpathy just coined it last month.

Manus's ability to autonomously execute complex tasks, from report writing to data analysis, is worth paying attention to.? I used Manus to perform some research.? I had it make some restaurant reservations.? I even had it create several programs…simple games written in Python.? They were admittedly a bit buggy but they came to life far more quickly than I can currently code in Python, so there's that.

What's also interesting is the evolution towards Human/Agent Hybrid teams.

The synergy between human creativity and AI efficiency is reshaping how we approach problem-solving and productivity.? I don't think it will be long before we regularly hear phrases such as Human/Agent Hybrid Scrum Teams.

OK…"HAHS-Team" does not roll off the tongue as nicely as "vibe coding" but I never claimed to be a linguistic neologist (yes, I had to look that one up as well).

Last year at I-COM ("Where Smart Data Marketers Meet"), I shared a story about a day in the life of the future CMO. This short story was told while I was standing on an open-air patio and without PowerPoint, in-line with I-COM's un-conference vibe. It explored the combinatory effects of Artificial Intelligence, Quantum, Immersive Tech, and more.

The story begins with a fictitious CMO (Samantha) whose company was launching a new product and had to deal with, amongst other challenges, the cold start problem.? She was on a human/AI hybrid team of sorts, and using natural language she simulated and modeled data flows and business processes via a digital twin of her organization in preparation for this launch.

Samantha's team had an AI team member that identified intractable problems hidden inside their business objectives, and architected calls out to a quantum computer to solve those specific equations.? At her direction, Samantha's AI modified existing applications and even created a new one to support this hypothetical product launch. She was actually vibe coding, almost 12 months before Andrej coined the phrase!

Samantha only existed in my mind until I shared her story at I-COM last year, but I believe similar stories could be told for many other roles in today's companies. Manus, and other agents just like it, help re-enforce the observation that the gap between business/creative roles and technology is quickly closing. Vibe Coding won't be a concept limited to software developers in the future.

While we are not there just yet (and admittedly won't be for some time), the pace of progress is still impressive. Manus's multi-modal capabilities and advanced tool invocation appear to be steps in that direction.? When I was done playing with Manus over the weekend, I could not help but have one of those, "Yep…it sure feels like it's all coming" moments.

As a consultant I have focused on "Client Delivery" for nearly 30 years...with a strong focus on how to build high-performing teams. As we navigate this AI revolution, it's crucial to consider both the opportunities and challenges. How do we effectively integrate AI agents into our teams?

More importantly, how do we maintain the human element while leveraging AI's strengths?? What new hybrid teaming methodologies (with equally entertaining names) will we see emerge in the coming quarters?

One thing's for sure - the future of work is evolving faster than we imagined. Are you ready for the era of Human/Agent collaboration?? Are you ready for "Human/Agent Hybrid Scrum Teams?"
