Hands-On | June 2024 Updates

Dear readers,

June marks the beginning of Summer in the northern hemisphere, bringing with it good weather and the opportunity to enjoy life outdoors. This month, between family activities, running, and a quick trip to Madrid to speak at CollabDays, I focused more on thinking and building a backlog of content for the future than on producing new articles and videos. However, there are still a few things that I did for all of you about tips, tricks, and new features of Microsoft 365.

Hands-On SharePoint

In June, I wrote about a game-changing feature for content aprovers in SharePoint pages. With the page track changes, you can clearly see everything that was changed between versions before approving a new one. Similarly, you can navigate back in time and see what was already published on your pages.

If you are not familiar with this concept in SharePoint, it works on the same principle as track changes in Microsoft Word, with all modifications being highlighted on the page.

To close out the month, I’ve compiled all the latest announcements and updates for SharePoint and related technologies from the Microsoft Admin Center and the Microsoft Roadmap.

Hands-On Teams

Working at Appspace, I have the privilege of working closely with some cool integrations with Microsoft. One of these was revealed in June - the possibility to use Microsoft Teams Rooms devices for digital signage . To be prepared for this special announcement, I dusted off my Teams Rooms devices and updated them to the latest version. In the process, I faced some challenges that I documented in case someone else experiences the same.

As Microsoft Teams evolves, it also introduces new features. In this case, a long-awaited one that matches a feature that I’ve heard Slack users mention numerous times as being fundamental for their loyalty to the platform. I’m talking about the possibility of using custom emojis. Now, you can create your own emojis and express yourself in ways that words alone cannot capture.

On the other hand, it’s good to see the new Microsoft Teams incorporating all the features that were available in the classic version. In June, it reintroduced the possibility of being notified when a user comes online.

As usual, each month, I publish a recap post about what’s new for Microsoft Viva, the Microsoft Employee Experience platform.

Hands-On tek

In the Hands-On tek blog, I posted about ‘The Unicorn Project’ by Gene Kim , a book that everyone working in IT should read, regardless of their role within the organization. Don’t let the title or the format deceive you; I also had doubts that a novel about IT could be interesting, but I was so wrong. I guarantee that the story told in this book occurs in thousands of companies worldwide, and even if you don’t work in IT, I bet you will find something that relates to your daily job.

Events and Public Speaking

I’m thrilled to announce that later this year, I’ll be speaking at the European SharePoint Conference, this time in Sweden. Don’t miss the chance to take advantage of early bird tickets and join the largest Microsoft 365 conference in Europe.

Together with a few friends, we kicked off CollabDays Portugal . After several years in Lisbon, first as SharePoint Saturday and then as CollabDays Lisbon, it is now time to make it global and bring it for the first time to OPorto. Don't miss the opportunity to register and visit Portugal and my beautiful city. We are waiting for you on September 21.

See you next month ??

I hope that you have found the content to be informative and engaging. I am committed to keeping you updated with the latest trends and developments in technology and productivity. To stay connected and ensure that you don't miss any updates, I encourage you to follow me on social media.

Thank you for your continued support, and I look forward to connecting with you soon. ??
