Dear readers,
January was a special month for the Hands-On tek blog, as it celebrated the 12th anniversary of sharing tips, tricks, and insights on Microsoft and other technologies. I want to thank you all for your continued support and feedback, which motivate me to keep writing and learning every day.?
I must confess that I struggled to maintain the same publishing pace I had last year as I began 2024. I postponed a few articles as I lacked the motivation to start the day writing for the blog. But after re-planning a few things and creating a new schedule, I feel I’m back on track now and I’m eager to try publishing a daily post in February for the third time in a row.
In the Microsoft 365 world, the month was marked by the release of?Copilot?for organizations of all sizes. To celebrate this fact, I’m starting a new monthly post with the latest updates for the Microsoft AI assistant. And I’ll also start showing you how to use Copilot to boost your productivity, creativity, and collaboration.
Hands-On SharePoint
Video content is widely used within organizations, with hundreds of meetings being recorded every day. With Microsoft Stream now fully integrated into SharePoint, you should make sure that you protect your valuable video assets as you do with other types of documents. To learn how to share videos without giving the rights to download, check out the following article:
SharePoint site collections allow you to move content more easily, but moving pages from one site to another can be tricky. You might need a third-party tool or a PowerShell script to do the migration. This month, I wrote about how to use Microsoft Lists and Power Automate to move pages between site collections. It’s not a bulletproof solution and you’ll have to check some things manually after the pages are copied, but it can greatly speed up the migration process within the tenant.
Recently, I’ve received many questions about the Microsoft Teams extension I created for SharePoint. Some people want to test it on their own tenants, but they don’t want to make it available to all users without trying it first. To address this issue, I wrote an article that shows how to create a site collection App Catalog to restrict the extension’s scope.
As usual, on the last day of January, I published the monthly update about everything new announced for SharePoint and related technologies. You won’t want to miss all the updates that are coming soon for SharePoint, especially those related to branding and custom fonts. ??
Hands-On Microsoft Lists
January is always a month of planning and reorganization for me, and I use Microsoft Lists to store and organize most of the things I do for the blog. With the start of the year, I had to create new views in some of my lists to show the information for 2024. I took this opportunity to improve my views and share with you how to sort and group items by month, and how to fix common issues with the formatting and the calendar view. I also explored the new calendar views that offer more flexibility to view your data over time.
While working on the new views, I had to find creative ways to overcome some of the limitations of the view formatting. This month, I also wrote about how to detect the length of a text value using Lists formatting.
Hands-On Microsoft Teams
January was a quiet month on the Microsoft Teams blog. I only shared two tips to help you make the most of this amazing application. I wrote about the new feature that lets you share contacts of users in chats, and also wrote about the important changes coming to the new Teams and the Web Site application. If you use this application heavily, you might want to check the impact it will have on your organization and make the necessary changes.
As usual, on the last day of January, I published the monthly post about what’s new for Microsoft Viva, the Microsoft Employee Experience platform. This month, there were some announcements for Viva Connections and Viva Engage that you don’t want to miss.

Hands-On tek
At the Hands-On tek, I started the year by celebrating the 12th anniversary of the blog and sharing the story of how it began. It was a trip down memory lane, and if you are curious about how I ended up working with Microsoft technology and immersed in the SharePoint world, have a look at the celebration post. As a bonus, you will be able to see how beautiful the blog looked back in 2012. ??
To celebrate Copilot being available to everyone, I have started a new monthly blog series where I will keep you updated on the latest news and developments of the various copilots in the Microsoft 365 ecosystem.
Hands-on tek is a space where I share my passion for technology and other topics that interest me. I love to give new life to old devices by upcycling and repurposing them. This month, I showed how I turned my obsolete iPad 3 into a dynamic photo frame.
YouTube Channel
My goals for 2024 on my YouTube channel are to publish at least one video every month and to reach 1000 subscribers. To start the year with a bang, I have uploaded two new videos about SharePoint and Microsoft Lists. In the SharePoint video, you can learn how to move pages between site collections with ease.
In the Microsoft Lists video, you can discover how to solve one of the most common issues when formatting a calendar.
Recording videos is still not easy for me, but stay tuned and subscribe to see what I have prepared for next month.
Public Speaking
I have two exciting speaking engagements coming up next month. On February 17th, I will be presenting at the AI, Cloud & Modern Workplace Conference 2024 on how to extend Viva Connections without being a developer.
On February 21st, I will be speaking at the Teams Nation 2024 event on how Viva Connections can enable collaboration in your organization.
If you are interested in these topics, don’t miss this chance to register. Both events are virtual and free, and they are a great opportunity to learn the latest about the Microsoft world.
See you next month ??
I hope that you have found the content to be informative and engaging. I am committed to keeping you updated with the latest trends and developments in technology and productivity. To stay connected and ensure that you don't miss any updates, I encourage you to follow me on social media.
Thank you for your continued support, and I look forward to connecting with you soon. ??
