UCLA Quarterback Against Proposed NIL Legislation
Chase Griffin, an influential UCLA Bruin quarterback, strongly opposed a Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) bill during a recent congressional hearing. As the first to win Male Athlete of the Year at the NIL summit in 2022, Griffin represents the majority of college athletes already participating in NIL activities.
The proposed "FAIR College Sports Act" was critiqued by Griffin for conflicting with athlete interests regarding direct payment through NIL deals, and potential repercussions on female athletes. Griffin urged Congress to consider alternative legislation or let the NIL free market evolve.
The hearing underscores the growing divide between athlete perspectives and congressional understanding of NIL issues, with Griffin highlighting the trust deficit between athletes and Congress.

George Carlin Estate Sues AI Generated Comedy Special
George Carlin's estate has filed a lawsuit against Dudesy podcast hosts and 20 other John Does that were associated with the AI-generated comedy special, "George Carlin: I’m Glad I’m Dead," in January.
The special allegedly utilized an AI chatbot trained on Carlin's material, which imitated his voice and style without permission.
The lawsuit claims the chatbot created unauthorized copies of Carlin's copyrighted work, damaging the late comedian's reputation. Carlin's daughter has denounced the AI recreation, stating it is a "poorly-executed facsimile" of her father's work.
This case showcases growing concerns about the misuse of AI-generated content, with entertainment attorneys emphasizing the need for control to prevent exploitation and violation of intellectual property rights.
