Hands on learning
Our Summer School for 2016 has got off to a great start and once again I am amazed at the ingenuity of our tutors. My favourite for the moment has to be Steve Douglas who runs our Inhalation Dosage Forms session. Last year he was demonstrating his home made Vortex Cannon and blowing over a tower of plastic cups with a cardboard box 10 feet away. This year the challenge for the group is to make a nebuliser using two straws. Intrigued? I certainly am. Could I do that - indeed could you do it? Why not find out more about our learning programmes and engage with us next year?
I still find it a real privilege to be able to work with so many talented experts from across the pharmaceutical industry who are willing to share their experience, wisdom, expertise and talent with those who are new, or developing in their roles. And knowing that, regardless of their current studies, my students can access the whole range of workshops across these three days is something that I am proud to offer and support.
My other big smile of the day came as everything began. Seeing distance learning students greet each other as old friends and catch up on the last 12 months, watching new friendships being formed and networks starting to develop makes it all worthwhile. Doing any kind of postgraduate study is hard. It demonstrates time management, resilience and critical thinking. Trying to do it as a distance learner can be a lonely affair, so I am pleased that I can offer this face to face session. And I'm even more pleased that I can make sure it is a useful session that people can enjoy.
Now, I think I am going to learn how to make a nebuliser out of straws!
