Handmade gifts create more moments of connectivity
Giving a handmade gift means something special. It shows that thought and effort has been put into the gift and creates more moments of connection between the giver and recipient. This week DMC has launched a new range of kits that make thoughtful, handmade gifting easy. The range includes kits that use either knitting, crochet, macrame, embroidery, cross stitch or punch needle techniques to make beautiful heartfelt gifts.
Trend for personalisation and meaning
The trend for personalised products continues and, in a post-pandemic world, our collective need for connection to our loved ones is a real driver for many of us. This Christmas, we’ll all be looking for special gifts for the people who mean the most to us. Something the cost of living crisis might make more challenging, but nothing shows you know and care for someone like a handmade gift. It is the ultimate personalised gift.?
Making a gift gives you the opportunity to pour something of yourself into it. You are giving your time which feels very loving. The making process becomes an act of love in itself, something that can help us feel more connected. So we have created something to help our customers fulfil this wish.?
We know our customers love to use their creative skills to make gifts, but finding the time and confidence to create a lovingly made gift can be daunting especially if you only started crafting during the pandemic. We wanted to create kits that would support people to make their gifts this year.
Launched in September to give people time to make ahead of the Christmas season, DMC’s new Gift of Stitch kits make handmade gifting easy. However, this range is not just for Christmas it includes items that are perfect for birthdays, new babies, new homes and ‘just because’ gift moments.
Gifts people will love to receive
All the Gift of Stitch kits have been designed with the finished gift in mind. If you are hand making something, you want to be confident you will create something the recipient will love. So we’ve provided customers with clear instructions, links to video tutorials and stitch guides to help ensure that makers can successfully complete the project and feel really proud of the finished results.

We’ve thought about the gift wrapping too and included a stitchable gift tag and ribbon in each kit so the handmade gifts will look wonderful under the Christmas tree.
Giving the benefits of needlecraft
The kits are designed to help people make gifts but also as gifts to make. Needlecraft is so relaxing, it has been shown to reduce stress and increase wellbeing. It can be meditative and help us develop greater focus.
Giving a kit is a thoughtful way to share the benefits of needlecraft with a loved one because they don’t have to go out and buy anything else. Everything they need is right there in the box. There are clear instructions and QR codes to take them straight to video tutorials and stitch guides. With these kits our customers can help loved ones start a really beneficial and enjoyable new hobby.
DMC inspires makers to create and connect more often to fulfil their aspirations and needs. We believe that what we do is more than craft. This article is the first in a series we’ll be posting that explores what needlecraft means to makers and how working with thread and yarn helps them in diverse and sometimes unexpected ways.

2 年Totally agree! I have also just launched personalisable embroidery kits too! Mine contain the beautiful DMC Diamant Grand threads in rose gold and silver, and they are gorgeous to stitch with and don't shred your fingers as they are coated, genius! Thsnk you DMC, they add a touch of sprakle to Little House of Victoria ??
With the current state of the world, I'm really feeling this, this year. Everyone is getting something sensible and handmade ??

2 年So true- for me it’s important to enjoy the process and let go of expectations. I find when I do that, the gift exchange is even more beautiful. Most of my gifts are handmade- right now I’m working on a quilt, quilted with DMC perle cotton, big stitch quilting

2 年It's quite profound how much of an impact even the simplest cross stitch can have on the recipient. In workshops, I often tell people to make something for their Mum, in the hope it will make her cry (but in a good way for a change).
