General human tendency is to remain in status quo as long as it gives all comforts which one seeks for! Changing status quo often triggered by some incidence. Long due promotions, Unexpected salary rises, unbearable conflicts with bosses, dissatisfaction with the job profile & responsibilities are some of the key factors which demands change in status quo by individuals. With the global recessions, pandemic and ever-changing fast adoption of new technologies also creating significant job cuts and this also adds as one of the factor to change status quo when person feels he/her getting redundant in the job.
The outcome of most of these changes in status quo often turns out to be very positive and people talk about it very often as well! On an average in every 3 years individual status quo gets challenged, however actual change in status quo may result only 1 out of such 2-3 occurrences! What that mean is person still try to sail through the unpleasant situation for very long and despite of knowing the need of change in status quo, person tries to remain at same state unless it really gets over and some past references strengthen the belief of need of changing the status quo!
Well as a general professional, this may look working and most of us able to achieve reasonable progress and success with this approach! One major benefit of this approach is to avoid too many unexpected turbulences and minimizing risks of failures. This approach definitely helps to achieve steady growth; however, person stays in a group of that 95 % professionals who grow and succeed in an industry average time frame!
What makes unique for those 5 % professionals who we see as having relatively better growth and success is the ability to change the status quo more often than of those 95 % professionals! The class of 5 % responds more diligently for every call of change in status quo which comes let’s say every 3 year. They are not really bothered to sail through this change and go for it even if they sense it adds some value to their profession and career. This is against the other group who respond to such situation only if its really essential or unavoidable.
As they face often changes in status quo, their ability to respond to such changes also gets improved over the time and later on they become so master’s in it that they take such transitions almost seamlessly without even realizing if it’s actually happening!
A person definitely needs to revisit his/her tendency to respond the need of changing status quos? The time and frequency will be very specific to everyone but an exact finetuning of it definitely going to be the key of success for everyone!
