Handling negative thoughts

Today I want to talk about the voices in your head- specifically when it comes to trying to achieve something or do something that you’ve never done before.
Here's the uncomfortable truth: whenever we push ourselves beyond familiar territory or attempt to broaden our horizons, our inner monologue tends to turn pessimistic. Our mind automatically generates reasons why we shouldn't or can't succeed.
This self-doubt frequently prevents us from pursuing opportunities and reaching our potential. So today, I would like to share with you what I have learned how to combat these negative voices that hold you back.?
Step 1: Recognize them. Watch for them and acknowledge them. Recognize that this is your brain trying to protect you.
Step 2: Ask yourself “what if the opposite was true?” Don’t assume that every thought that pops into your head is accurate or even reality.
Step 3: Brainstorm on how you can close the gap between your initial negative thinking and the opposite from step 2.
Here's a practical example to demonstrate this approach:
A physical therapist is contemplating introducing specialized pediatric services to her practice. Whenever she considers this expansion, her mind floods with doubts:
Instead of abandoning the idea, she acknowledges these thoughts as protective instincts and documents them. Then she moves to the next phase.
She challenges each doubt with its opposite:
As she explores these alternative perspectives, she begins to envision the positive impact she could have on children's lives. Her initial spark of interest grows into genuine enthusiasm and motivation.

She then develops practical solutions:
Through this process, she transforms her hesitation into actionable planning.
Pretty awesome, right??
Now, consider how this applies to your team. They too experience similar doubts. When asked to adopt new treatment protocols, learn unfamiliar technology, or modify long-standing procedures, their internal dialogue often defaults to resistance and uncertainty.
When introducing changes, accompany your requests with supportive guidance. Help them envision positive outcomes. Acknowledge that change brings challenges while expressing genuine confidence in their capabilities. Sometimes, simply knowing that you understand their apprehension while maintaining faith in their abilities can significantly impact their success. You're essentially providing an alternative to their self-doubt – a voice of encouragement and support.
That’s it for today. I hope that you will be able to not only recognize the negative thoughts that pop up for you but that you now have some tools to battle those thoughts.?
