Another prevalent worry often voiced prior to a session revolves around the unpredictable British weather and its potential impact on outdoor dog photoshoots, especially here in the UK! As a dedicated dog photographer situated in Windsor and Ascot, Berkshire, UK, I am well-acquainted with the challenges posed by our ever-changing weather conditions. Here, I offer insights into addressing these concerns and share strategies to ensure a successful and delightful photoshoot experience for both you and your beloved furry friend.
Embracing the Great Outdoors
Outdoor photoshoots offer a wealth of opportunities for capturing the natural beauty and playful spirit of your canine companion. From sun-drenched parks to tranquil woodlands, the possibilities are endless. However, the British weather can be notoriously fickle, presenting challenges such as rain, wind, and fluctuating temperatures. How can we best prepare for and overcome these challenges to create magical moments that you'll cherish forever??
Firstly, we have a very clear policy - if the weather looks iffy and the client would like to reschedule, then we will do so at absolutely no cost. We want the whole time to be a complete experience, and if the weather would impact that, we are more than happy to reschedule.?
If the weather is too hot (and yes, it does happen!), again we'll either encourage a very early start or otherwise reschedule - your dog's health and safety is paramount at all times.?
If timing is critical, and you'd like to take advantage of the weather conditions, then what are some of the things to ensure success.?
Planning for Success
Keep an Eye on the Forecast
We always stay vigilant in monitoring weather forecasts leading up to the photoshoot, and encourage our clients to do the same. As mentioned, we are always prepared to adjust the timing of the session based on changing weather conditions.?
Dress for the Occasion
On the basis we plan to go ahead with the risk of rain, then dress appropriately for the weather and encourage your dog to do the same. Consider investing in weather-resistant clothing or accessories to keep you and your dog comfortable and dry. Whilst we'd encourage your dog not to be wearing a coat or covering In the photos, we can keep them as dry and comfortable as possible between photographs.?
Stay Flexible
Embrace spontaneity and be prepared to adapt to changing weather conditions on the day of the photoshoot. It's best to remain open-minded and willing to explore alternative locations or creative ideas that may arise.?

We will have the often unique opportunity to experiment with reflections, puddles, and rain-soaked scenery to add an element of drama to your photos.?
Embrace the Elements
Windy conditions can add movement and energy to your photographs, creating dynamic and captivating compositions. As long as your dog enjoys the fun of the weather, we can encourage your dog to play and interact with the elements, capturing their natural curiosity and adventurous spirit.?
Seek Shelter When Needed
If the weather becomes too extreme or uncomfortable, then don't hesitate to seek shelter and take a break. We will always recommend this as we want to ensure it remains a fun and magical experience. We can always use this time to review some of the photos, and recharge before continuing with the session.?
