Handling Gen Z in the workplace

Gen Z employees are quitting their jobs at higher rates than previous generations, and one major reason is a lack of alignment with their workplace values. As someone who has witnessed this trend from different client companies, I can attest to the importance of values in the workplace and the impact they have on job satisfaction and overall well-being.

For many of those in Gen Z, the traditional model of working simply for a paycheck is not enough. They want to feel a sense of purpose and meaning in their work, and they want their values to be reflected in the companies they work for. This means seeking out employers that prioritize social responsibility, environmental sustainability, and diversity and inclusion, among other values.

This presents a challenge for employers, who must adapt to the changing expectations of the workforce if they want to attract and retain top talent. This means not just paying lip service to values like sustainability or diversity, but actively prioritizing them and making them integral to the company’s culture and operations.

Ultimately, the power of values in the workplace cannot be overstated. For many of those in Gen Z, their work is not just a means to an end, but a way to make a positive difference in the world.

By prioritizing values in the workplace, employers can attract and retain top talent and create a workplace culture that is not just profitable, but meaningful and fulfilling for employees.
