There is a famous saying that “Don’t confuse having a career with having a life.” Which is very much suitable with the current context. Sometimes handling oneself too much brings in more anxieties and makes people to take regressive decisions of quitting or shifting the companies.
Some millennial who give the majority of the workplace have a belief that their career is their identity. There are cases where employees these days expect less of a separation of work and personal life becomes emotional and take irrational decisions with their career. Though on a greater note it carries a lot of positivity for the professional growth, still certain aspects to be looked carefully when we look into the holistic growth.
These cases we need to build a strong line of separation between your personal and professional life. Based on my understanding, I am sharing certain points which if kept in mind will figure out the right approach to your work and career.
Passion v Work: You might be a passionate photographer but that doesn’t mean that you can be successful if you choose photography as a profession. Both are the two sides of the coin which demands different approach. It is important to have the artist alive within you which keeps your visions burning but at the same time you need to work on the priorities. You may be good at 100 things but job wise you may face many challenges which makes you stretch beyond your skill set.
Channeling your Creativity: Creativity is a hygiene factor in whatever areas of business you work on. Applying a touch of creativity in all your activities you do bring in the better results. Generally, when you start a company you may need to do the real hard work to organize your workflow with the defined set of activities. Being creative, you can bring in small improvements without investments and bring in better results.
Positional Power v Acquired Power: It is an untold truth especially in the startup that the person who is more creative, more courageous and open to experimentation is the powerful and influential in the organization. Gone all days where the focus of the employees has shifted in understanding and work according to the needs of not just the customer but also anticipating the needs and bring in the early solution to be the market leader.
Stay long v Work Long : Smart work is an enigma which many don’t understand. Especially when freshers join from the college, give their best at the initial days by working long hours and quit their job when they are unable to handle their boss. As an employee you have the bigger responsibility on choosing your right career which generally starts with the choice of the right job. This choice has a bigger result in making your professional destiny better. Only if your choice is right, you can be persistent. Persistence can bring in results. Results can bring in satisfaction at workplace. This satisfaction helps you to bring the holistic growth that we are looking for.
These are my observations which I have conceptualized thorough my reflections in my professional life and it may or may not be relevant to your line of business. But I am curious and love to hear if you have certain cases of handling your emotions in your workplace and keep up the rhythm that has brought you the better results? Do share with me and I would love to hear
