Handle Hard Better

Handle Hard Better

It is March Madness for those fans who get excited this time of year!

Is your bracket busted already? Mine is toast!

The reason this time of year is so exciting for college basketball fans is the storylines and upsets.?

Lots of exciting upsets.....where the underdog miraculously beats the 1, 2 or 3 seeded team.

The media focuses on the great story that these proverbial "Cinderella's" give us.

But, what about the high seeded losers of these games?

Well, they get the chance to learn from these losses and these lessons transcend the court.

Kara Lawson

Sports can be one of life's best educators.

It is not just the winning, hard work, and commitment that is needed.

It is the losing. It is dealing with adversity.?

ESPN ran a story on Duke Women's coach Kara Lawson that caught my attention.

Coach Lawson gave an impromptu speech to her team that luckily someone recorded.

It is a 3 minute masterclass on building mental resilience.

This is my favorite part:

“We all wait in life for things to get easier. Think in your own life if you have waited for something to get easier. ‘I just have to get through this and it will be easy’....It is what we do. We wait for stuff to get easier…It will never get easier. What happens is you handle hard better. That’s what happens. Most people think that it's going to get easier. Life is going to get easier…It never gets easier. What happens is you become someone that handles hard stuff better. That is a mental shift that has to happen in your brain. It has to, because if you go around waiting for stuff to get easier in life, it's never going to happen.

That is powerful stuff.

Coach Larson’s? message of…’you become someone that handles hard stuff better’ is the key.?

It is a mental shift.

Don’t wait for stuff to get easier.

Losing is part of business, sports? and life.?

The key is how you handle it.?

I hope you enjoyed this Saturday Note.

Really good stuff. “Handling hard stuff better” what a great way to think about the transition of your mindset between the ages of 20s,30s,40s, and beyond.
