In Hand
When I look back at my very ordinary Division III lacrosse career, I am thankful that God has allowed sports to create many meaningful relationships and memories in my life. Oftentimes, it seems that the ordinary things that God places in our hands go overlooked or unappreciated. But, whether you are coaching a team or teaching a class of students, it is important to remember that the Lord uses our common circumstances to impact others for His kingdom.
In the book of Exodus, God took the ordinary staff that Moses carried around every day in his hands and used it as a reminder of the Lord’s sovereignty and faithfulness in Moses’ life. It became a symbol of God’s presence throughout the many trials that Moses and the Israelites would face and was used by the Lord to perform great miracles. While Moses was initially a reluctant participant in God’s work, the staff in his hands was a constant assurance that God would work wonders through ordinary circumstances.
Just as Moses learned to rely on the extraordinary power of God, we too must learn to see the seemingly ordinary opportunities placed in our hands as tools to impact and encourage others. Instead of waiting for God to do something miraculous in our lives, let us look at the familiar things that He has placed in our hands and use them for His purpose. Although we may not always feel completely prepared or confident to do God’s will, it is important to remember that the Lord uses what is ordinary in our lives for His incredible plan. Take whatever is in your hands today and let the Lord’s extraordinary work unfold.
