Given the present acts of violence, threats, and education and mental health challenges, our youth need a helping hand more than ever. It is a pleasure to spearhead and present another powerful opportunity for your youth! The?#HandinHand?Initiative was birthed from the heart and mind of Aaliyah Sevier, one of my bright elementary?Rockwood School District?students (of 2005 while I was Executive Director there and now) who is currently a third-year MED student at?Saint Louis University?(SLU). A team of SLU MED students, two SLU Directors -?Ryan Wilson?and Tim Murrell, EdD, the STL Legacy Center Executive Director Terry Harris, EdD,?RBC Coordinator?for?STL.works?Workforce Development?Alandon Pitts?are leading this initiative.
This initiative aims to provide powerful experiences and instill #powerskills into each participant! Up to 40 students, through over 11 Saturday Academy sessions and activities, will visit area leaders, workplaces, and colleges, become leaders, and learn to #flourish in #careers, #college, and life. Seats are limited. The deadline to apply is Oct. 27, 2023.

The Hand-in-Hand Initiative is a program supported by the Saint Louis University, RBC STL.works, and The Legacy Center (TLC). It focuses on fostering career readiness and professionalism in young students, as well as enhancing “soft” skills, or what we refer to as durable power skills, that make them competitive in the workforce. This program will provide workshops, field trips, presentations on various professional outlets, and opportunities for students to showcase their intellectual ability with the help of dedicated professionals. The goal is to enhance the students’ ability to present themselves in a sophisticated and dignified manner, while also exposing them to upper-level concepts of how to be successful. As a team, we will seek out ways to creatively engage our target audience. We will help encourage the students to develop a sense of pride in themselves as well as in their ability to overcome obstacles, to achieve something more than the circumstances they may be in to thrive.
