Hamilton is known as the "Steel City" for its history in the steel industry, but it's becoming known for the steely determination of a thriving creative community that call it home. In recent years, the city has become a hotbed for fashion and design, with numerous local designers making a name for themselves. This year's Hamilton Fashion Week was a celebration of that community. The event showcases the work of local designers, models, and stylists, and provides a platform for them to showcase their talent to the world. ?It is obvious that there is talent in excess in Canada and there is great potential for growth in the Canadian fashion industry. However, some big steps must be taken if this potential is to be realized. One of the most important things that must be done is to challenge the current perception of Canadian fashion locally. There are many people who believe that Canadian fashion is not on the same level as countries, such as Italy or France. This belief is not completely unfounded but it needs to be challenged. There is incredible fashion talent within Hamilton and other parts of Canada that deserve attention and ultimately a larger platform. In order to achieve growth in the fashion industry, we need to support local talent and give them the opportunity to shine. Events like Hamilton Fashion Week are a step in the right direction and I hope to see more initiatives like this in the future.?
