Ham: Son of Noah (Nok Culture, Caucusus, Cimmerians, Cimarrons)

Ham: Son of Noah (Nok Culture, Caucusus, Cimmerians, Cimarrons)

The?Cimmerians were a nomadic people in the central?Caucasus. They defeated the Urartian army and raided Urartian lands as far as immediately south-west of?Lake Urmia.

Caucasus is a region spanning Eastern Europe?and?Western Asia.

It is situated between the?Black Sea?and the?Caspian Sea, mainly comprising?Armenia,?Azerbaijan,?Georgia, and parts of?Southern Russia.

In Georgian tradition, the term Caucasus is derived from?Caucas, attributed to a Togarmah, "this one being the son of both?Tiras?and?Gomer, mentioned in?Armenian?Moses of Chorene?(c. 480) and?Georgian?Leonti Mroveli?who regarded Togarmah as the founder of their nations along with other?Caucasian peoples…" except that Tiras was Gomer's brother who founded the "Thirasians," but the Greeks changed the name into Thracians.

These were the three sons of Noah, and from them came the people who were scattered over the whole earth. -Genesis 9:18-19

According to the Bible, the sons of Noah who came out of the ark, following the great flood (c. 2100 BC), were Shem, Ham and Japheth. (Ham was the father of Canaan.)?

The sons of Ham were Cush, Mizraim, Put, and Canaan.

The Canaanites are descended from Canaan, son of Ham whose descendants include include the Sidonians, Hittites, Jebusites, Amorites, Girgashites, Hivites, Arkites, Sinites, Arvadites, Zemarites, and Hamathites.

The first three sons of Ham are traditionally seen as the ancestors of African peoples. The descendants of Cush settled in the upper Nile region (Southern Egypt and northern Sudan), Misraim settled in Egypt, and the tribe of Put settled in either Libya or Somalia.

According to the Bible Gomer is one of the sons of?Japeth, along with Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech, and Tiras.

Gomer was the father of?Ashkenaz,?Riphath, and?Togarmah.

Historian Josephus Flavius,?author of Antiquities of the Jews, placed Gomer and the "Gomerites" in Anatolian Galatia: "For Gomer founded those whom the?Greeks?now call?Galatians, but were then called Gomerites.

Galatia was an ancient area in the highlands of central?Anatolia, roughly corresponding to the provinces of Ankara and Eski?ehir, in modern Turkey.

Paul the Apostle?visited Galatia in his missionary journeys,?and wrote to the Christians there in the letter to the Galatians (c. 48 or 49AD). Two areas were in Galatia, both in modern Turkey, it's unclear where the churches were to which he was writing.

"In Georgian (Europe) tradition, the term Caucasus is derived from Caucas, the son of the Biblical Togarmah* and legendary forefather of the Nakh peoples.

The?Nakh peoples?are a group of?North Caucasian peoples?identified by their use of the?Nakh languages?and other cultural similarities."

*Togarmah is the son of Gomer (whose brother is Tiras), both of whom are sons of Japeth, who is the son of Noah.

The original?Nok culture?is a population whose material remains are named after the?Ham village of?Nok?in?southern?Kaduna State?of?Nigeria, where their?terracotta?sculptures?were first discovered.

Based on stylistic similarities with the Nok terracottas, the bronze figurines of the?Yoruba Ile-Ife?and the?Kingdom of Benin?may also be continuations of the traditions of the earlier Nok culture.

Located on the peripheries of?Turkey,?Iran, and?Russia, Caucasus has been an arena for political, military, religious, and cultural rivalries and expansionism for centuries. Throughout its history, the region was usually incorporated into the?Iranian world.

Under?Ashurbanipal?(669–627 BC), the boundaries of the?Assyrian Empire?reached as far as the Caucasus Mountains. Later ancient kingdoms of the region included?Armenia,?Albania,?Colchis?and?Iberi, among others. These kingdoms were later incorporated into various?Iranian?empires, including?Media, the?Achaemenid Empire,?Parthia, and the?Sassanid Empire, who would altogether rule the Caucasus for many hundreds of years. In 95–55 BC, under the reign of Armenian king?Tigranes the Great, the?Kingdom of Armenia?included Iberia, Albania, Parthia, Atropatene, Mesopotamia, Cappadocia, Cilicia, Syria, Nabataean kingdom, and?Judea.

Maroons are descendants of Africans in the Americas and Islands of the Indian Ocean who escaped from slavery and formed their own settlements. They often mixed with indigenous peoples, eventually evolving into separate creole cultures.

The?Cimarrons?in?Panama?were enslaved Africans who had escaped from their Spanish masters and lived together as?maroons.

They were not only hunter-gatherers but rather had extensive and well-defended settlements, sometimes numbering over sixty households.?

An estimated 3,000 of them lived in Nombre de Dios, a town on the Caribbean side.

The word of the Lord came to me: “Son of man, take up a lament concerning Tyre. Say to Tyre, situated at the gateway to the sea, merchant of peoples on many coasts, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says:“‘You say, Tyre, “I am perfect in beauty.” Your domain was on the high seas; your builders brought your beauty to perfection. They made all your timbers of juniper from Senir; they took a cedar from Lebanon to make a mast for you. Of oaks from Bashan they made your oars;of cypress wood from the coasts of Cyprus they made your deck, adorned with ivory. Fine embroidered linen from Egypt was your sailand served as your banner; your awnings were of blue and purple from the coasts of Elishah. Men of Sidon and Arvad were your oars men; your skilled men, Tyre, were aboard as your sailors. Veteran craftsmen of Byblos were on board as shipwrights to caulk your seams. All the ships of the sea and their sailors came alongside to trade for your wares. “‘Men of Persia, Lydia and Put served as soldiers in your army. They hung their shields and helmets on your walls, bringing you splendor. Men of Arvad and Helek guarded your walls on every side;men of Gammad were in your towers. They hung their shields around your walls;they brought your beauty to perfection. “‘Tarshish did business with you because of your great wealth of goods; they exchanged silver, iron, tin and lead for your merchandise. “‘Greece, Tubal and Meshek did business with you; they traded human beings and articles of bronze for your wares. “‘Men of Beth Togarmah exchanged chariot horses, cavalry horses and mules for your merchandise. “‘The men of Rhodes traded with you, and many coastlands were your customers; they paid you with ivory tusks and ebony. “‘Aram did business with you because of your many products; they exchanged turquoise, purple fabric, embroidered work, fine linen, coral and rubies for your merchandise. “‘Judah and Israel traded with you; they exchanged wheat from Minnith and confections, honey, olive oil and balm for your wares. “‘Damascus did business with you because of your many products and great wealth of goods. They offered wine from Helbon, wool from Zahar and casks of wine from Izal in exchange for your wares: wrought iron, cassia and calamus. “‘Dedan traded in saddle blankets with you. “‘Arabia and all the princes of Kedar were your customers; they did business with you in lambs, rams and goats. “‘The merchants of Sheba and Raamah traded with you; for your merchandise they exchanged the finest of all kinds of spices and precious stones, and gold. “‘Harran, Kanneh and Eden and merchants of Sheba, Ashur and Kilmad traded with you. In your marketplace they traded with you beautiful garments, blue fabric, embroidered work and multicolored rugs with cords twisted and tightly knotted. “‘The ships of Tarshish serve as carriers for your wares. You are filled with heavy cargoas you sail the sea. Your oarsmen take you out to the high seas. But the east wind will break you to pieces far out at sea. Your wealth, merchandise and wares, your mariners, sailors and shipwrights, your merchants and all your soldiers, and everyone else on board will sink into the heart of the sea on the day of your shipwreck. The shorelands will quake when your sailors cry out. All who handle the oars will abandon their ships; the mariners and all the sailors will stand on the shore. They will raise their voice and cry bitterly over you; they will sprinkle dust on their heads and roll in ashes. They will shave their heads because of you and will put on sackcloth. They will weep over you with anguish of soul and with bitter mourning. As they wail and mourn over you, they will take up a lament concerning you: “Who was ever silenced like Tyre, surrounded by the sea?” When your merchandise went out on the seas, you satisfied many nations; with your great wealth and your wares you enriched the kings of the earth. Now you are shattered by the sea in the depths of the waters;your wares and all your company have gone down with you. All who live in the coastland sare appalled at you; their kings shudder with horror and their faces are distorted with fear. The merchants among the nations scoff at you; you have come to a horrible end and will be no more.’” -Ezekiel 27

The word of the Lord came to me: “Son of man, set your face against Gog, of the land of Magog, the chief prince of Meshek and Tubal; prophesy against him and say: ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: I am against you, Gog, chief prince of Meshek and Tubal. I will turn you around, put hooks in your jaws and bring you out with your whole army—your horses, your horsemen fully armed, and a great horde with large and small shields, all of them brandishing their swords. Persia, Cush and Put will be with them, all with shields and helmets, also Gomer with all its troops, and Beth Togarmah from the far north with all its troops—the many nations with you. “‘Get ready; be prepared, you and all the hordes gathered about you, and take command of them. After many days you will be called to arms. In future years you will invade a land that has recovered from war, whose people were gathered from many nations to the mountains of Israel, which had long been desolate. They had been brought out from the nations, and now all of them live in safety. You and all your troops and the many nations with you will go up, advancing like a storm; you will be like a cloud covering the land. “‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: On that day thoughts will come into your mind and you will devise an evil scheme. You will say, “I will invade a land of unwalled villages; I will attack a peaceful and unsuspecting people—all of them living without walls and without gates and bars. I will plunder and loot and turn my hand against the resettled ruins and the people gathered from the nations, rich in livestock and goods, living at the center of the land.” Sheba and Dedan and the merchants of Tarshish and all her villages will say to you, “Have you come to plunder? Have you gathered your hordes to loot, to carry off silver and gold, to take away livestock and goods and to seize much plunder?”’ “Therefore, son of man, prophesy and say to Gog: ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: In that day, when my people Israel are living in safety, will you not take notice of it? You will come from your place in the far north, you and many nations with you, all of them riding on horses, a great horde, a mighty army. You will advance against my people Israel like a cloud that covers the land. In days to come, Gog, I will bring you against my land, so that the nations may know me when I am proved holy through you before their eyes. “‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: You are the one I spoke of in former days by my servants the prophets of Israel. At that time they prophesied for years that I would bring you against them. This is what will happen in that day: When Gog attacks the land of Israel, my hot anger will be aroused, declares the Sovereign Lord. In my zeal and fiery wrath I declare that at that time there shall be a great earthquake in the land of Israel. The fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, the beasts of the field, every creature that moves along the ground, and all the people on the face of the earth will tremble at my presence. The mountains will be overturned, the cliffs will crumble and every wall will fall to the ground. I will summon a sword against Gog on all my mountains, declares the Sovereign Lord. Every man’s sword will be against his brother. I will execute judgment on him with plague and bloodshed; I will pour down torrents of rain, hailstones and burning sulfur on him and on his troops and on the many nations with him. And so I will show my greatness and my holiness, and I will make myself known in the sight of many nations. Then they will know that I am the Lord.’ -Ezekiel 38
