The Damon Hill Festival of Karting
halow project?was thrilled to welcome its supporters to its 10th and revamped Damon Hill Festival of Karting on Wednesday 21 June at Daytona Motorsport, Sandown Park. Drivers got the chance to challenge the charity’s patron, co-founder and former F1 world champion, Damon Hill, as well as racing against other legends and upcoming stars like Perry McCarthy, Johnny Herbert, and Ellis Spiezia.
Champions and runners-up
We must congratulate the teams for their hard fought podiums, with P3 going to Ignition Racing and P2 to the Merry Pranksters. However, all the glory goes to the Apex Predators, whose team co-captain was upcoming Formula Women’s star Raj Kular.
Other activities
Zero Petroleum held a demonstration of their 100% drop in synthetic fuel, which is carbon-neutral and made from simply just air and water. Plus, we heard great insights into world of racing from experts such as: former race engineer to Kimi Raikkonen and TV pundit, Julien Simon-Chautemps; former engineer for Mercedes and McLaren, James Dorner; and former Top Gear producer, Jim Wiseman. This was alongside some very special vehicles on display including the Nissan RC90K which took pole at the 1990 Le Man race in the expert hands of Mark Blundell.
The auction
For the racing collectors and fans, an auction was held by Bonhams | Cars. Lots included: a signed racing suit from 9 time race winner Mark Webber’s last season; gloves signed by Sir Lewis Hamilton; an Aston Martin cap signed by Lance Stroll and Sebastian Vettel; and tickets to both Goodwood Festival of Speed and Goodwood Revival – kindly donated by Bonhams | Cars. Chairman Emeritus at Bonhams | Cars Malcom Barber said, “It is always a privilege to be involved in such worthy causes”
And the total is...
Through funds raised on the day and the services donated by our event supporters to create a refreshed experience, halow has benefitted from £20,000, with further pledged donations incoming!?

Building Futures’ successful expedition
On 19 June, the Year C's of Building Futures prepared for a three day canoeing trip down the Thames. They camped at Thames Young Mariners overnight. This was working towards either a Silver Duke of Edinburgh, halow partnership award, or an AQA leadership award.
The staff were thrilled with how their confidence grew each day and how the group required less support from the staff from SOLD or halow. By day three, the group was cooking their own breakfast on Trangia’s completely independently. They also took the rafts off the trailer, got them ready to be launched into the water, and even crewed the canoes without staff being onboard.
The staff described how “the group has shown grit, determination, joy, fun, laughter, and utter resilience over the past few days”. We are all very proud of them and well done to all for passing the awards.
