Today's bite is how positive impressions produced in one area positively influence our opinions in another.
Did you know... people tend to let one positive trait guide their total opinion of a person, product, business, or experience?
This is called the Halo Effect. The Halo Effect is a bias in which, for example, people consider good-looking, well-dressed individuals to be more intelligent, successful, and popular.
The Halo Effect is also very powerful for products and services. Simply placing your product near a high-end brand increases its perceived status and customers' willingness to pay.
The Halo Effect
Given that the halo effect has a lot to do with appearance, it is heavily linked with product and branding. Firstly, people tend to stick with products that they have already judged to be good. For instance, it is rare that someone uses different brands of technology for their phone, computer, and watch. Typically, once we show loyalty to a brand, it earns that “golden halo”, making it harder for us to consider alternatives.
How You Can Use It
Think of your strengths. What makes your brand stand out? What makes it unique? Being known for something makes you the first brand people think of. Encourage genuine reviews and testimonials and associate your brand with like-minded, well-known collaborators.
