Halloween @ Wisr

Halloween @ Wisr

While packing up disco ball pumpkins, sugary lollies and leftover masks from Halloween last week, I had a bit of time to reflect on why our recent Halloween Party is so aligned to what we are building here at Wisr.

At the centre of our purpose-led organisation is just that, purpose and meaning in what we do and how we do it – mixed with a whole heap of fun. Even though Halloween might not be recognised as a holiday with much meaning beyond cheesy costumes and increased sugar intake, I thought I would break down what it means to us at Wisr.

  1. Be loud and proud As a company, we were all encouraged to dress up in costume at work and even wear them whilst commuting. We had Darth Vader and Gomez Adams arrive via ferry, Mario on the E65 bus from the northern beaches and a whole heap of crazy characters from superheroes to vampires and Harry Potter characters. At Wisr, we are encouraged to be loud and proud of what we do and how we do it. From parading around in Halloween costumes to talking about how much debt we are helping Australians to repay via our Wisr App, we’re supported in being loud and proud about it.
  2. Expect the unexpected At the end of our Halloween day, we surprised all of our employees with a haunted house that we built in our office filled with ghosts, ghouls and hidden scares. It was amazing to have our secret team of Halloween-lovers pitch in and hilarious to watch people walk through it for an unexpected scare. It’s hard to predict what each day will hold at Wisr but we all know that we can expect something unexpected and awesome from our colleagues. From a haunted house to helping each other be great in our work, we’re in for a treat. ;)
  3. We’re all in this together At Wisr, we have a very strong culture where we are all encouraged and expected to be stunning colleagues and help each other be great which echoes throughout all parts of our business. Teams organised amazing group costumes, Wes from tech turned felt into blackout curtains for the haunted house, Andrea from Customer Success printed party posters, and people from all areas of Wisr pitched in as needed to make the day great. Whether we’re throwing a Halloween party or building a business that is bringing financial wellness to all Australians, it is so obvious at Wisr that we are all in this together. That is how we have been so successful in delivering on our goals and how we will continue to charge forward!
  4. Some days are made for eating candy At Wisr, we find excuses to come together as a team, celebrate our successes and just have fun. Typically, we’ve got people engaging on our #ask-the-nutritionist Slack channel where we talk about food for high performance but everyone once in awhile we recognise the need to spend the day having fun and eating candy. Everything in moderation, right?

If you’re interested in joining the Wisr team and participating in our next Halloween bash, stay up to date with our job openings or reach out to me directly!
