Hall of Fame Quarterback Plays the Long Game at Waffle House

Derrick Moore graduated from Elon University in 2001, but not before he was inducted into the university's Hall of Fame. He earned this illustrious designation after having thrown for 2,476 yards and 23 touchdowns and still holds multiple collegiate records. Upon graduation, he remained in North Carolina and worked in the hotel industry for eight years. He wasn't considering a career change until his cousin (also a Waffle House manager) talked to him about the opportunities for career advancement and professional development.

"At Waffle House, I find the money financially rewarding," Derrick affirmed. Division Managers earn $93,500-$119,300. But that isn't the only reason he stays. Derrick enjoys working in a people-centered role and leading a large of team of more than 250 employees, supervisors, and managers. "I hate being bored," he chuckled. "I love the uncertainty of the next day - no two days are the same. I enjoy finding people and offering them the opportunity to do what we do. I thrive on that energy!"

Ten years later, Derrick's dynamic personality is still calling the shots with his team; he has built a successful career at the world's largest 24-hour dining operation. Today, Derrick, his family, and their pets, are based in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Southwest Virginia.
