If you are feeling burned out, overwhelmed, and unmotivated... its okay. Many of us do right now. It's not a bad thing. It's just time to open your "Life Closet", do some spring cleaning and reshuffle some priorities. Let's talk about it.
April and May went by really fast. As we enter June and the summer months I ask myself when did we even experience Spring this year? The year and the world is moving way too fast.
?
And the truth is, we have to keep up. Over the past few years I have noticed more and more people get overwhelmed and depleted. Whether it's trying to keep up with Career goals or trying to manage the hundreds of apps that have invaded our lives- the reset button is so needed right now.
?
So in December of last year I set my intentions for the year that my key goal for 2024 is "Organization". Yes, that's it. Organization.
?
You might feel that this is such a waste of time to say something so simple but let me ask you this- do you feel like you got your sh%t together right now? Honestly?
?
Do you feel like you got all your files organized?
Are your clothes organized?
Do you have too many subscriptions?
Are your finances in order?
Do you have plans in place?
Is there a system for finding and displaying your (memories) such as photos and videos?
?
I can go on and on.
?
Admit it, a lot of things in your life are all over the place.
?
And if you keep going like this - you will actually break down. I am speaking from experience as someone who is extremely high functioning in the face of pressure, change, and chaos. It's not worth it to just keep pushing. Stop and go back and organize the key elements of your life and build it back up brick by brick.
?
And if what I just said was triggering to you... good. No one is perfect and everyone needs to get their sh%t together anyway. Me included. You just need someone to remind you that it's okay to feel this way and it's okay to do something about it.
?
So let me tell you what I started doing this year that has helped me. I hope it serves you well.
I created a "Life Portfolio'' document. Before the internet mania that exists today, we divided our lives into 2 parts- personal life and business life. And we all struggled to find balance. Now, we have to accept that our world is now split into 3. Which is 1. Your Business Life. 2. Your Personal Life. 3. Your Personal Brand. It's the Personal Brand piece that is getting people overwhelmed nowadays because you have to maintain a persona online and offline. So my Life Portfolio document outlines my action items and goals for each area of my life for this year and 5 years out. I might do a webinar on this to explain this further because this document helped me make a major shift in my career planning and truly improved my mental health. I feel more in control now because of it. Reply back if you would like to learn more.
I started organizing my photos. Year by year. Started with my first child and did all of her top photos from her first year. Then I went to all memories with her in my second year. So on and so forth. And I also started printing them. Album by album. In a digital world we forget that we have left the old school way of engaging with our memories behind. Don't leave all your memories online. Print them. Engage with your past without the need of a wifi connection.?
I went through my email box and got it down to zero. I moved urgent important items into folders and set dates on them for my calendar. The rest, read and kept it moving. Feels good to see a clean email box.?
I create a 1 pager for each entity that I own. In that one page it has an executive summary about the company and all the main log in details and links needed (marketing plans, business plans, revenue sheets etc). Basically I created my own dashboard using google docs.?

I created a burn rate document for personal finances- to identify where my money goes down to the cents. Then listed out my income streams. Every month I started reviewing it with the goal of knocking out a minimum of one item each month. When I started this, I had at least 26 subscriptions (many of which I don't usually use but hope that I will eventually). I just terminated the subscription. If I really needed it I would use it. Stop bringing hope to financial burdens.?
I reviewed all of my old google drive folders and organized them by updated categories. It's like a trip down memory lane because I found old presentations, projects, and resources that I've forgotten about.
With that said, I created a new folder for resources and research. By reviewing my old files I realized these resources were scattered all over the place.
I created a parking lot folder to capture all of my pending projects and ideas that I am unable to take on right now but will plan for in the future. This really took a mental load off so I didn't have to feel any FOMO (fear of missing out on something). When I'm ready I will go for it. It's also something to look forward to.
I was able to do this by dedicating 1 hour each Friday for this organization project. By the way I don't take meetings Mondays and Fridays so these are usually my errand and admin days. You can pick a day of the week on your calendar that works for you like Saturday or Sunday evening.
In the end, I am finding different areas of my life that need to be paid a visit. Organization not only declutters your life and your mind, but it also reconnects you with things that have been lost over time. A captivating email here, a forgotten startup idea here, a video memory that will make you cry...so on and so on.
Take this on. Even if you spend 15 minutes organizing your email box, your photo library, or your subscription list... do it.
Let me know how it goes.??

Really great read and points. I want to start doing a digital declutter soon. Earlier this year, I started a physical one with old notes in my drawers , my closet and toiletries but I need to finish.
