The Halftime Report: Assess, Adjust, & Finish Strong

It's June, and the heat is on in northern California. Already, there are some days where we've had temperatures soaring to 105 degrees, reminding me that we're halfway through the year. I've been thinking about making it this year's midpoint and how it presents the perfect opportunity to pause and do a 'halftime report' on my goals and progress. I'd like to share how I have been doing in some areas, and it might spur you to do the same. Many of us set New Year's resolutions at the start of the year, aiming to change or achieve something new. Six months in, it's time to reflect and assess our journey.
Assess Your Progress
How are you doing so far? Have you taken the time to evaluate where you stand compared to your January goals? Most New Year's resolutions hardly make it past the second week in February. Many people rarely put in the infrastructure to successfully create new habits. No judgment here. If there were some areas where you fell short or didn't live up to your standard, this self-assessment is crucial. Reflect on what you've achieved and where you could do better.
For instance, I've had more speaking engagements this year and maintained a consistent presence on social media. I'm working on not yelling at my kids as much, striving for a more even tone, especially as they grow older. These are my benchmarks. What about yours?

"I will...." Start? Stop? Continue?
Think about the actions and habits you set out to adopt at the beginning of the year. Are there things you need to continue doing because they've been effective? Are there things you should stop doing because they're not serving you well? Or are there things you need to tweak? We're halfway through the year, and it's time to finish strong. Whether you're job hunting, pursuing education, or aiming to excel in your current role, maintaining focus is essential. Aim to be so good that you can't be dismissed. How are you working towards that goal?
Habits and routines play a crucial role in our success. We are what we repeatedly do. As Aristotle said, excellence is not an act but a habit. I encourage you to also reflect on your daily routines. Are they aligned with your goals? Consistency in small, positive actions can lead to significant achievements over time. Another axiom to remember is James Clear's 'Atomic Habits' insight: 'You do not rise to the level of your goals. You fall to the level of your systems.' By 'systems, 'we mean the processes and strategies you have to support your goals. Ensure your systems and routines support your ambitions. The DNA of your success is in your routine.
There's still enough time to win
Just like in a race, you need to keep going. Believe in yourself and your ability to achieve your goals. Reflect on your accomplishments, adjust your strategies as needed, and charge into the year's second half with determination.
What I love about halftime in sports is that there's still enough time to make a difference. If you're ahead, you have to be vigilant to finish strong. If you're behind, you must keep your confidence high and execute against the game plan. As you take some time this summer to yourself, reflect and recalibrate, then use whatever break you have to finish the year strong and positive. I believe in you. Let's go!
Absolutely! Reflecting on your progress is crucial for personal and professional growth. It's like taking a pit stop during a journey to check the map and make sure you're on the right track. At WinSavvy, we often advise our clients to regularly assess their goals and milestones, celebrating successes and learning from challenges. It's inspiring to see others doing the same. Keep up the self-awareness journey!
