Half Price Book Store has been around at 3207 Broadway St., San Antonio, TX 78209 for 53 years and is in the same area code of Alamo Heights zip code of 78209. On December 19, 2023, management announced that the historical icon's flagship store would close, and people would drive from New Braunfels, Texas, to visit the store. The downtown location will permanently close on May 5, 2024, and the other Half Price Book Stores will continue to operate. The property was sold, and it is still being determined if there will be a grand sale or if the inventory will be sent to other store locations.
Citizens in The City of New Braunfels have expressed an interest in Half Price Book Store opening a store in their city, but they have yet to receive a response from management regarding whether such a store would be placed in the town. As The City of New Braunfels continues to grow, studies are being conducted to create a local transit authority, more businesses move into the city, and the quality of life is much better than in other cities.
A historical icon on Broadway Street will surely be missed, and it will not be the same shopping and buying experience at the other locations. Since the property was sold and the rent increased, it would be difficult for Half Price Book Store to open and operate another store in San Antonio; it would bite into their profit margins. I plan to visit the icon store before it is permanently closed forever!
