Half full..... Flagger communication

This “Half full” post is flagger inspired...
It’s road construction season in the Kootenay’s. I don’t know his name however he is in his reflective gear, stop sign in hand. He is guardian of the road construction zone. He is also going to make me late. I’m in my old farm truck and on the rushing edge of being late for a Monday morning hospital round. He is doing one of the most dangerous jobs possible.
I’m the first he is stopping to form the next one way convoy. He walks over. I roll down my window and know it’s likely bad news.
The noisy smell of fresh hot asphalt is heavy in the air.
“Good morning!” ( he is smiling and is looks at me as he speaks)
“It’s going to be about 30 minutes.” ( clear, concise; He has a big sign with one word on it so I know what “it” is)
He gives me a moment to process. Then shoots a look towards the noise.
“It’s going to be so nice when it’s finished!” ( part of his team, yet also in it for me and my longer term goal )
“You can consider going via King Street instead.” ( Giving me an alternative and letting me choose!)
I go via King Street. A peaceful and relaxing drive. Pink and Adele drive with me. I arrive way later than anticipated. Yet, couldn't have asked for a better grounding for the week. I get to practice the principles and flow of “flagging” speak and mindset in the hospital.
Later I drive home via my normal route. He’s not there anymore. His promised “so nice” new road continues to take shape. Just as he said.
