Better Than “Best,”
Unexpected Ways to End an Email
Full Disclosure:
I use “My best” to sign off my emails. Nowadays, it seems like everyone is using some variation of “best” to end their emails. I started writing this as a means to find a new sign-off for all of my emails.
That led me to think more in-depth about what we are saying with our emails and our email sign-offs. Are we being nonchalant, dismissive, or even cold? Are we simply putting a comma next to any old word to sign off?
Our content + production associate, Jacq (why am I always writing about Jacq?) uses the sign-off “Warmly” and it truly suits her. She is a warm person; someone who rarely has a negative thing to say. Sometimes she even wears a fuzzy pink coat to work. In a word, she is warm. This sign-off fully works for her.
So what’s the best way to end an email as a professional, on a Friday, in the summer, as an attorney, or as a comedian?
Let’s figure it out together. Here are a few (dozen) ideas of sign-offs and the messages they could convey.
