Haitian Proverbs For the Soul

"Piti Piti Zwazo Fe Nich Li" or in English, "Little by Little the Bird Builds its Nest"

This is an ancient Haitian proverb that speaks directly to the soul. It tells a story of perseverance and tenacity. Little by little the bird makes it nest. The bird is a traveler. The bird moves freely. The bird is an animal that flies to its next destination. It only moves when it feels the need too.

The bird doesn't have help in creating its nest. It flies alone & gathers twigs from all over in order to create its perfect environment. The search for a home is compensated by actually creating this home step by step.

The environment is chosen by the bird because the bird is in control of creating where it wants to live. Its instincts enable it to be a home builder. The nest isn't created overnight, it is a process that takes time. The time & effort that it takes to create this nest, makes the bird appreciate home that much more. It is constant progress in the right direction. The bird doesn't stop when its tired, it stops only when its finished.

As we grow, we must understand that bird is representative of this process we call life. It may seem as if we are searching for something overnight. We may be aiming to create an overnight success but that's not the reality. Anything worth having takes time. You must put in the effort and be mindful of the energy you're spreading while you create the life you want to live. Although it requires patience, let us never forget that little by little the bird makes its nest.
