Haitian flag a legacy for humanity

Created in May 18 1803 by #JeanJacquesDessalines, the Haitian flag was adopted in 1820 and then made official in 1843. The two-tone Haitian flag (which has known different versions since its creation) today blue and red signed the will of Haiti to break the slavery system, engine of the world economy at the time, in the name of human dignity.

This symbol constitutes an act of faith on the outcome of the fight between slaves and masters, since it was created exactly 6 months before launching the great campaign crowned by the battle of Vertieres on November 18, 1803 where the French troops of Napoleon Bonaparte abdicated.

In fact, Haiti has sounded the death knell of the world slave system by spreading the ideal of freedom in the Americas, Africa and Europe, as evidenced by Haiti's participation in the independence and recognition of many countries of Latin America, Africa and even Greece in Europe.

May 18 of each year, Haitians worldwide have a thought for their land and their ancestors. For a Haitians who proudly wears this national emblem, it inspires bravery, resistance and freedom. In the country they use to celebrate the feast of this glorious symbol in their history.

Usually, to mark this date, cultural organizations in the country offer parades performances, music and dances accompanied since 1938 by music titled Fière Ha?ti/Hymne à la jeunesse composed in 1937 by édouard Antonin Tardieu. In addition, in schools, workshops are organized to teach young school children how to make their own little flag.

Beyond a nationality, to be Haitian is to have faith in humanity

When we see the Haitian flag flying, we also see the symbol of the union of blacks and mulattoes who joined their forces to found this young and unique black nation, whose resistance led to the abolition of slavery effectively in 1803.

No matter your nationality if you fight for social justice and freedom no matter the price to pay, if you share the values of universal human rights you can call us brother / sisters.
