Had the Yated Lost its Principles?

I hope you have all been having a great summer!
I got so many calls about last week’s cover, (picture above). People just glanced at the cover and went apoplectic, calling me on the phone frantic:
How can you dare do that to our president!
This is what the calls sounded like: Has the Yated lost its principles? You were the first ones to support Trump, when I still thought he was nuts, what’s happened to you now?
They were referring to the question posed on the front page:“Can he do anything right?” And for those who read the article, the answer was that his enemies allege that he cannot, but the Yated writer showed that they are hypocrites and explained what was going on and how the Charlottesville reaction was unleashed.
This week I can safely say that the cover is unlikely to elicit strong response.
It’s a reminder that Elul has begun, the month when we get serious and take a good look at ourselves. We try to get our priorities in order and become better people. Yeshivos around the world opened this week and soon school will open for the rest of our children. To us in Yated that’s big news, that is what we are really all about, putting first things first, knowing what is important and what is not.
And for those who were worried that our support for President Trump is wavering, this week’s Editor’s View is a must read. I haven’t read or heard such a spirited defense of our president anywhere!
Of course the paper is packed with our usual, plenty there for everyone, whether you like Trump or hate him.... or couldn’t care less.
Have a great Chodesh Elul.

7 年I am going to express a very different viewpoint. Any publication that truly aspires to call itself "principled" is advised to be less antagonistic toward politicians who make room for alternative lifestyles (Remember: in the eyes of a group that once formed a majority of this country, Jews practicing Judaism were/are eternally damned.) and more antagonistic toward those, who based on their own admission, have serially sexually assaulted women (i.e., POTUS).
