#HackWithInfy 2022

#HackWithInfy 2022

It was after a long gap of two years that we had some of the best coders in action, in person, at our #Pune campus @Infosys for the most awaited #HackWithInfy2022 . The tagline of this year’s event was ‘Code. Collaborate. Conquer.’ which was perfectly suited for the atmosphere at the venue.

It’s all about learning from the best minds around as part of an overall program that starts with defining and deep diving in problem statements with practitioners and goes on for 40 hours straight. It’s the time to hack and select the best out of the best.

Hackathons are one of the best vehicles when it comes to learning, to experimentation with innovation, applied with competition pivot to maximize the potential. Over the years with numerous hackathons, we have only accelerated this; and made difference to stakeholders in a world where continuous learning is the mantra for success.

The theme for HackWithInfy2022 was Technology for Social Good. I would categorically like to highlight how the emerging tech scenarios were bundled so effectively at right level of details. Based on these, the teams had to derive problem statements around sustainability, monitoring and raising alarms of hazards, and elevating acceptance of innovative practices through state of art immersive experiences. All these were bundled through tech around drone, IoT with hardware kits, and metaverse on XR pivot.

I would love to share a few learnings from the teams that showed many of us how the young brains had taken this challenge so bravely with a great sense of purpose and planning.

1.????Focus on real-world results - To my surprise, teams had taken the problem statements where they could gather more impact in contrast to tech, where they had prior experience. In fact, maximum teams took solutions using tech stack where the participants had either no or minimum experience – be it mixed reality development using unity or playing with Arduino Uno kits for CS stream coders.

2.????Applied Design Thinking - Teams were formed keeping in mind that the participants would be from different engineering institutes bringing a sense of cultural variation in them. This worked out beyond our imagination – we were amazed at how arranged constructs like bowling, Zumba, musical yoga, or other indoor sports activities helped the coders break the ice and know each other better in a short time. 40 hours of hacking with defined work responsibilities, knowing skill expertise, and making it work both in silo and integration was tough. It was a challenge to get a solution ready in such highly competitive environment. However, each team had a solution where there was agreement in terms of problem statement and approach, eventually leading to working prototypes to matured solutions.

3.???Clarity of thoughts – It was noteworthy to see how the teams had structured the entire duration of 40 hours, how they applied practices of design thinking for problem solving. I remember a team specifically mentioning how everyone endorsed what they were committing to in terms of selecting the problem statement, to each member’s role, to what end solution would look like – thorough planning of 6 hours’ sprint – that’s what I term as micro sprints in actions with plan, build, review and reflect demonstrating with focus, commitment. respect and trust values in action.

4.????Marvelous mentors in action - Data sets, Standard operating procedures (SOPs) by mentors, ready cloud pipelines were great start to teams. They had a level playing field and they could leverage these constructs to have matured solutions. We assigned a unique designated mentor for each team to ensure they don’t get stuck on basic setup, environment related challenges, etc. The mentors were available round the clock for any troubleshooting support. The contribution of the mentors in the success was evident from how the winning teams spoke about them on the stage.

5.????Solving for the future - We had a fantastic start to the event with the leadership articulating the big picture, from point of view of Infosys, and bringing a futuristic view of evolving tech, and envisioned ideas to scale among enterprises. Aligned to the theme for #HackWithInfy2022 , it was striking to note how all participants came together to take a pledge on their commitment to sustainability through suggested measures and multiple best practices across work or as responsible citizens.

6.??????One Infy - One last point I would love to mention is the most important. It is to emphasize that our champions from marketing, recruitment, technocrats, leadership and their passion towards making #HackWithInfy India’s premier hackathons made this grand event a huge success!
