- Organize your week at a glance: Even the simplest tools like Google Calendar will come in handy when organizing your week’s priorities. Outside of team meetings, “book time” with yourself to work on priority tasks. You can relax, knowing that everything you are responsible for will be given the attention you have set aside.
- Focus on one thing at a time: Plenty of remote workers have found methods like Pomodoro extremely effective for time management and minimizing distractions while working. Focusing on one task commitment at a time for a 25-minute segment, then taking a short 5-minute break, away from the screen, helps to reduce feelings of overwhelm when you have a full workload.
- Create a workspace that covers your needs: Location preferences vary for everyone. Some prefer a designated work area at home, with full access to all the familiar comforts nearby. Others, prefer to take their portable workstation to public spaces such as cafes, or libraries, where they can interact with others and feel motivated by the positive pressure of onlooking voyeurs. Expert hack: If you ever feel like your favorite work spot has lost its special touch, try switching up your location and see how it boosts your productivity. All you need is a good wifi connection and your to-do list!?
- Find tools that boost your productivity: Aside from choosing when to take breaks from the screen and making time to eat, employees working outside of an office have a lot of unique and pleasurable hacks for productivity. For some, music helps them get into an impenetrable and focused work. For others, things like audiobooks, podcasts, aromatherapy, or swapping out a chair for standing are all effective ways to help get things done.
- Reaching out to others on the team for connection: If your position on the team doesn’t require your participation in regular meetings, providing you with frequent ‘face-to-face’ contact with others on the team, be sure to reach out to your team for any support or concerns.
