Hacks for a Healthier Easter Period.

Hacks for a Healthier Easter Period.

It's a beautiful day to have a beautiful day! Not forgetting that the clock's go forward this weekend Yipee!

I know we lose an hour in bed, but who cares when it means we get to spend more time in daylight each day... Wahoo!

Ok so with all of this in mind and the fact that for those of you that celebrate Easter, I wanted to share some quick swaps and hacks for the Easter holiday. Even if you don't celebrate Easter, the fact that children are off from school for Easter holidays can also mean that we are more inclined to eat less healthily due to a change in our usual routine. So where to begin...

First off, you don't have to fully avoid chocolate. Dark chocolate with higher cocoa content is a great alternative aim for 70%+. It's richer in antioxidants and lower in sugar.

Secondly, get creative in the kitchen and make up some really delicious healthy treats such as energy balls, or oatmeal cookies using natural nuts? and natural sweeteners like honey or maple syrup.

Third, entertaining, having family over be sure to prepare healthy options such as lots of different chopped veggies and hummus with rolled meats. They can really spruce up a dinner table too. You can't beat a good chacutterie board.? Make roasted veggies with garlic and a drizzle of olive oil and challenge yourself to put a creative spin on your salads. My current favourite salad has strawberries, walnuts and feta in it.??

Fourth, this is a biggie for some reason. When we have a change in routine, it's easy to drop our good hydration habits. So be mindful of this and remember to drink your daily water each day - aim for a minimum of 2 litres.

Fifth, get active this Easter: Think of the long weekend as a gift to spend time out in the nature, go for a lovely family walk or perhaps plan an Easter egg hunt that really does get you all moving.

Balance really is key at Easter time. It's important to not feel completely deprived and more about enjoying healthy treats in moderation. As an eating psychology specialist, I know how important it is for you to not feel deprived because deprivation simply leads to cravings, which can then lead to binging. So be kind to yourself! Enjoy this lovely holiday. You deserve it!
