crypto girls club
crypto girls club is the largest community in Europe empowering women in web3. ??
Hackathons are as crypto as the code itself.?
But most people haven’t dared to throw their hat into the ring.?
If you’ve never been to one before, a hackathon is an event where people come together to code, build products and create solutions to problems in the market.?
The best projects usually win prizes like tokens, money or access to an incubator programme.?
Why are hackathons important in emerging tech?
Web3 and AI are really collaborative industries. This isn’t so surprising when you think about it.
Web3 is decentralized - meaning most projects are split across multiple geographic locations and financial ecosystems. AI can range from big traditional tech companies to hubs of developers that niche down based on function and areas of research.?
A lot of this can mean working remotely. That’s partly why people from disparate parts of these sectors regularly come together in events to spark ideas and build cool stuff. It’s also a great opportunity to get inspired by the way other people work and to experiment with new ideas in real time.?
Nevertheless, loads of people are put off by hackathons because they don’t think they’ve got anything to add. Hackathons obviously benefit from a good handful of technical folks, but there’s room for marketers, product people and more.?
How to pick the perfect hackathon
When it comes to hackathons, we know a thing or two. In fact, we’ve hosted 3 of our own over the years, with more to come in future.?
After our own hacking events and attending countless more, we’ve come up with a few pointers for how to spot hackathons worth your time:?
Look for longevity
Hackathons should be designed for projects to grow after the event is over.?
Everyone has their eyes on the prize money, but the best hackathons will support the winning projects into the early stages of their development.?
Bright minds + great idea + money + mentoring and support = tip top incentivisation worth putting your time into.?
?? Multichain first
Most hackathons are focused on one chain alone.?
While this is both a totally understandable and sensible strategy for organisers from those chains, it can lead to the creation of gimmicky products that don’t add proper value.?
The best hackathons will have a selection of prizes to be won across different chains - this is something you normally see at larger conferences or their satellite events.?
Make sure it looks fun
The vibe of each hackathon is different. Some are really boutique, curated events. Others are really not.?
So - before you click attend make sure you haven’t signed up for a 48 hour, no-sleep crypto bro fest.

We recommend checking out? the location, number of attendees, the organisers and the programme itself to get a better understanding of what you're hacking into.
?? Don’t underestimate your skills
It doesn’t matter if you can’t code. At a hackathon, there’s always going to be a comfortable supply of technical partners for you to hitch your wagon to. But successful projects need more than just strong technical chops.?
Marketing is super important in crypto and helping sharpen why your product is great, laser focus on the problems its solves and communicating that to judges and prospective users alike is really valuable.?
From operations to strategy, product, security and more - your background will give you something to contribute.?
But you won’t know until you try.
Give it a go!?
You’ll come away with valuable experience and perhaps even an idea that the market badly needs.?
