Hack your metabolism to lose weight

As you know, every Tuesday, I bring health hacks for you. The purpose of sharing this weekly hacks is simply to help you become more productive at work and also, in day to day life. 

This post is in continuation with the previous one, how to hack your metabolism. I am sure you must have understood how slow metabolism obstructs your weight loss journey.

Metabolism describes all the chemical processes like breathing, digestion of food etc. that take place inside the body. In simple words, metabolism helps convert food and drinks into energy.

Don’t blame your body metabolism if you are not losing the pounds. Try to boost it rather. While in your mindful weight loss voyage, be very wise and particular about the food choices you make. 

Include the diet that induces thermogenesis and helps you in weight loss. Here are some foods that hack the metabolism and burn fat rapidly.


  1. Red chillies & cayenne pepper

The presence of capsaicin, an active compound found in our popular spice chilli peppers, is known to speed up your metabolism. This has a significant role in weight loss. Also, it helps in maintaining the blood pressure.

Along with metabolism-boosting properties, a teaspoon of cayenne pepper will help you burn extra 10-20 calories per day. It is also considered as a digestive aid.

2. Selenium 

There are several studies that talk about its positive impact on weight loss and percentage of body fat reduction. This vital mineral is essential for metabolism and for better immune function. Rich in antioxidants, selenium helps in protecting the body from free radicals and protecting against cell damage.

Selenium, especially adds magic to the women who are struggling for weight loss due to thyroid-related issues. Research backs on the diet rich in selenium or its supplements metabolize thyroid function and eventually helps in weight loss.

Food sources include foods like tuna, turkey, poultry and organ meats are the richest source of selenium. For the green eaters, whole wheat products, nuts, garlic, cottage cheese, brown rice, sunflower seeds, Mushrooms are the good sources of selenium.

Selenium is a trace element that naturally exists in many foods. Remember we need selenium in a very small quantity. So, do consult with your certified nutritionist or doctor before starting a supplement. 
Selenium found in food is dependent upon how much selenium is found in the soil where the food was grown.  

3. Broccoli

The green cruciferous diet-aid contains a substance called glucoraphanin. This helps to “retune” body metabolism. Studies also suggest it has an impact on lowering blood fat levels. Loaded with fibres, it helps to satiate early and make full for a long time.

The green wonder low-calorie vegetable is the powerhouse of antioxidants. Profused with antibacterial and immunity-booster properties, Broccoli is the first choice of fitness freaks and of the weight loss community.

The best way to grab this low calorie, high fibre, nutrient-dense cruciferous vegetable is to eat raw as a salad or sauted preparation. You can also combine it with mushroom, tofu and make steamed vegetables.


The presence of indole-3-carbinol, a chemical found in Broccoli, is known to boost DNA repair in cells, thus it reduces the risk of Aging too. 


Starving yourself is a call for muscle loss and not weight loss.

Eating a very low-calorie diet can let your body use muscle for energy. This can lead to a loss of muscle mass. Thus, mindful eating that boosts your metabolism and helps in burning body fat is the best choice you can have for weight loss results.
