HAB’s Avocado Nutrition Center Submitted Public Comments for the Upcoming White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health

This September, the White House is set to hold its second Conference on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health. The first one, held in 1969, was a transformative event that was the catalyst for sweeping changes in the country’s food policy and led to huge reductions in hunger and malnutrition. This year’s conference is an opportunity for our generation to comprehensively tackle some of the greatest challenges around food facing the nation.

Millions of Americans are afflicted with food insecurity and diet-related diseases, such as heart disease, obesity, and type 2 diabetes, which are some of the leading causes of death and disability in the U.S.

President Biden and his government have set several targets around improving nutrition and ending hunger in the U.S. by 2030. In this sense, the Conference on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health is critically important since it could influence the U.S’ approach to diet and nutrition for the coming decades. It represents a historic moment in the U.S. food and nutrition policy.

The Avocado Nutrition Center shared information and initiatives, that will hopefully be considered in the formation of the strategy to accelerate progress and drive transformative change in the U.S. to end hunger, improve nutrition and physical activity, and close the disparities surrounding them.

The national strategy will be announced at the Conference on September 28 in Washington, D.C.
