Habits Through Heads

Some habits form without our realizing certain behaviors are occurring. We need to be intentional if we want to create habits in others, especially if performance excellence is an objective.
Our firm's extensive data over three decades has validated a fundamental hypothesis: To instill a desired behavior as a habit, it must first be consciously recognized. This understanding is enlightening and informs our approach. You must navigate the conscious to reach the subconscious. If you aim for a behavior to become habitual in another person, they must first be aware of it before it can become a natural part of their work or routine.
This is why communication and clarity are essential when trying to establish new habits in others. By openly discussing the desired behavior and its importance, you can help the individual recognize it and begin to integrate it into their daily life. Providing consistent, balanced feedback and support can reinforce the habit-forming process, making it more likely to stick over time. Remember, habits take time to develop, so it's important to be patient and persistent. This reassurance is key when working towards behavioral change in others, and it shows your commitment to the process.
What behaviors, if they became consistent, would most directly contribute to the results you are pursuing? Now, how do you get it out of your head and into the heads of others?
"A habit cannot be tossed out the window; it must be coaxed down the stairs a step at a time." — Mark Twain
"And once you understand that habits can change, you have the freedom and the responsibility to remake them." — Charles Duhigg
