Haag-Streit unveils winners of its “Slit Lamp Imaging Competition 2024”

We're excited to announce the winners of the Haag-Streit “Slit Lamp Imaging Competition 2024.” The competition gives eye care professionals worldwide a chance to showcase their imaging skills by submitting outstanding slit lamp images and videos. But it’s not just a contest – it's also a celebration of the art and science behind ophthalmic imaging, highlighting the remarkable detail and precision that modern slit lamp technology can capture.

Now in its sixth year, the competition continues to grow, drawing hundreds of remarkable submissions from 23 countries, including the USA, UAE, UK, China, South Korea, Brazil, and Australia. Many of the award-winning images were captured using the Haag-Streit BX 900 slit lamp, known as "the photographer’s slit lamp." Its powerful xenon flash and mirror housing ensure optimal lighting for superior ophthalmic imaging.

The judging panel, consisting of professional photographer Marc Curchod, ophthalmologist Jesús Conejero, and Haag-Streit Product Managers Frank Wenger and Jacqui Kenyon, carefully evaluated each submission. All of the entries were scored based on quality, technical execution, and the significance of the depicted disease.

In first place...

Utpal Sarkar , from Disha Eye Hospitals, India, was the competition’s overall winner of the imaging category. The image, taken on the BX 900 slit lamp displays an iris cyst in vitreous cavity. Utpal wins a Sony Alpha 7CII 28-60mm Kit. The image will also be showcased in a leading ophthalmic journal.
