H2 Twin Cities: Joined Up Thinking
H2 Twin Cities, is an initiative formed the US Government Clean Energy Ministerial, and supported by the UK Government's Department of Energy Security & Net Zero, and Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.
Within the scope of this project, Aberdeen and Kobe will exchange best practices and insights gained from their respective journeys in hydrogen adoption.
They will also highlight their advancements on the H2 Twin Cities platform for the benefit of other regions. As a part of the project, Aberdeen City Council and Kobe City Government are hosting a webinar series to offer a comprehensive overview of Aberdeen's hydrogen-powered transport fleet.
This includes insights into vehicle procurement, utilisation, and details about the city's infrastructure supporting hydrogen transport.
During these webinars, participants will gain insights into Aberdeen's hydrogen transport solutions, vehicle conversion processes, and the various skill services available in the city. Notably, the Wrightbus Streetdeck Hydroliner made its debut in Aberdeen in 2021, when First Bus , the operator, revealed its fleet of the hydrogen-powered double-deckers comprising 15 vehicles, with a total cost of £8.3 million secured through grants from the EU and the Scottish Government.
By May 2022 the Hydroliner had clocked up one million miles since launch, equivalent to circumnavigating the globe 40 times, achieving a substantial reduction of 1,700 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, compared to equivalent diesel bus journeys, equivalent to removing 400 cars from the roads for an entire year.
Beyond the Aberdeen fleet, the company's hydrogen buses are now actively servicing routes in multiple cities including London, Birmingham, Dublin, and Belfast, whilst also selling in mainland Europe including Germany, and beyond.
The Hydroliner bus releases only water vapour from its tailpipe, devoid of any harmful emissions.
