Many Indian professionals and students got good news last month when the US announced who won the H1-B visa lottery, according to Times of India
The excitement was quickly dampened with harsh language from USCIS about possible fraud from H1-B applicants.
USCIS has been issuing stern warnings about repeat applicants and errors in paperwork since the announcements came out.
News about unworkable backlogs and endless waits for H1-B visas have been ubiquitous, but in early May, USCIS said that the numbers may be higher than usual because of fraud.
Mass layoffs in the tech industry coupled with this meteoric rise in applications raised some red flags that sparked a USCIS investigation. They say that people may be applying multiple times, through different companies, for the same spot.
But of course the agency is notoriously slow and drowning in bureaucracy, making some wonder what Canada is like this time of year.
