SYNOPSIS

Rosa commits suicide, which is the catalyst for the progressive physical and mental deterioration of Manuel, her elderly husband. Mario, his son, decides to bring him to live with his family, despite the fierce opposition of his new wife, who’s expecting a baby.

Naia, his teenage granddaughter, is the only one who trusts Manuel, whose dementia is getting worse and worse by the day. The family’s new living situation will continue to go rapidly downhill, until it literally becomes a matter of life and death, leading to a dramatic denouement, which will take place on the hottest night of the century.

T H E??E L D E R L Y?is the second project undertaken by González Gómez and Cerezo after co-directing?The Passenger,?a fantasy horror story that had its World Premiere at last year’s Sitges. It has been sold to over 25 countries for showing, including the United States,?in addition to having participated in many national and international festivals. It is now available on?DVD and Blu-Ray.

ABOUT THE DIRECTORS

Fernando González Gómez and Raúl Cerezo are two leading directors in the world of short films who, after each being involved with several successful releases, decided to join forces to create? The Passenger, their first feature film together. They were so convinced by the result that they have already held the world premiere of their second project in Montreal:?The Elderly. The cinema of Cerezo and González Gómez seeks its own voice that does not shy away from finding inspiration in their own particular fetishes, such as the catalogue of production companies A-24 and Blumhouse or the work of directors such as Kubrick, Polanski, Spielberg, Cronenberg, Paul Thomas Anderson, Brian de Palma, M. Night Shyamalan, Carpenter, Berlanga, Bu?uel, Saura and Tarantino... They constantly bypass familiar points of reference in order to create highly personal films.

Raúl Cerezo?(Madrid, 1976)

A director, producer and screenwriter, and co-founder with Helion Ramalho of the genre film production company Eye Slice Pictures, Raúl Cerezo is a major and leading figure in the world of short films and Spanish fantasy horror. His long-awaited feature debut came with? The Passenger, which had its world premiere in Sitges after its appearance at the Fantastic 7 in Cannes. Cerezo, creator of the original idea and co-producer of?La pasajera, has co-written and co-directed his second film,?The Elderly, also with Fernando González Gómez, which after Cannes, Montreal and other festivals to be announced, will be brought to cinemas by Filmax.?
