GWR Castle steam locomotive to visit Cardiff
Flew Poznań to London Luton, then a quick taxi ride to Milton Keynes,
then IC train to Birmingham and here we are ready for our
steam train adventure.
The locomotive 7029 Clun Castle which we will be traveling behind
operated the last scheduled steam train from London Paddington to Banbury
in 1965 and my husband was on it being only 13 years old!!!
Good job Howard!
The train went on a circular route to Cardiff.
Outbound via: Worcester, Cheltenham Spa, Gloucester and along by
the Severn River to Newport and on to Cardiff.
Inbound after Newport we went trough the famous Severn Tunnel
which is over 7km long and then on to Swindon, Didcot, Oxford,Banbury,
Leamington Spa and back to Birmingham.
Steam trains aren`t always slow.
Our locomotive ran most of the journey at over 100kph,
with a maximum speed of 133kph.
We had a great day out meeting lots of old friends/railway fans.
P.S. This event hapened two years ego on Saturday, 2nd October,
but I thougt is worth to mention.
