It's so common to hear someone whispering to you " Look, that fellow always remains in attitude."But as they say; we must not only hear but actually listen to understand which makes it effective. As we hear using our ears and listen using the combo of our ears plus mind; similarly we see using our eyes and observe using our eyes plus mind. As listening ought be be effective, with same analogy, observing too has to be effective. Which simply means, optimally objective, rational and bias free. These uses of our senses such as hearing, seeing, feeling/sensing touch, smell etc. sends signals to our brain; which in turn interprets the meaning to these signals; many a times prior stored information in the form of similar experiences or sometimes all together a new data processing and output may yield.Altogether, these repeated signal, processing, output mechanism gives us a faster software known as Perceptions. Perceptions primarily rest on the foundation of our pre-conceived notions. Perceptions largely account for of our belief, disbelief, good or bad labellings of external world or even about our own self.Perceptions are one way, in the sense, their existence is limited to our minds only. But, their effect is reflected in terms of our behaviour towards others and self. We usually act, react or respond to stimuli at the advice of our perceptions. What others see or perceive about us is our behaviour in any form words, gesture, act, posture; and this constitutes our Attitude. For example; someone may ask you, " What is your perception about current state of democracy in India?". The questioner is trying to get a feel of your perception about the subject of enquiry, yet he/she has no capability or capacity to get inside your mind and read your actual thoughts. But, how do you reply to this question, determines your attitude. Others can only judge you on the basis of your attitude i.e. observable acts of behaviour. Your attitude is visible to others and your perception is not.Hence, every one has perceptions (their own lenses, paradigms, translators) to judge self and external world. And thus, we all have attitudes. A mix of positive, negative, neutral and so on.What important is to stay as close to rational, verified, objective facts to form our world of perceptions. And even more importantly, choosing responsive behaviour instead of reactionary approach. Those struggling with attitudinal issues of others or theirs, may seek to alter perceptions, attitude is bound to follow these.Attitude may be rated as being positive or negative, but it can't be ruled out. All of us have it. It is others who rate you and your attitude. You are well aware of your perceptions, the hidden treasure or heap of scrap. Others really don't have any idea of it. If you wish to change at your own free will, work on perceptions.
