This guy actually said "I Don't Care if My Website Gets Hacked"

It's pretty shocking isn't it?

To hear a prospective client say those exact words within a meeting nearly made me fall over in my chair.?

For anyone that knows me, you can probably imagine that this comment immediately energized me to educate him on the importance of web security.

However, I want you to know why it's important as well.

WHY WOULD HE SAY IT?

Why doesn't this person realize website hacking is bad?

He told me there is no secretive or sensitive?information on his website, so it didn't really matter.

Others might agree with him and then disregard web security as an important topic.

Any business owner that agrees though has probably never experienced website hacking on their company website.

As a professional web company with 15 years of industry tenure, we understand the devastation that's caused by hacking, so let's take a moment and explain some of the key points.

WHY IS WEBSITE HACKING BAD?

This list could be long, so I'd like to only touch on a few key points and how they relate to your brand and marketing efforts:

1)?DEINDEXED FROM GOOGLE:?When Google realizes you're hacked, they will deindex your website from their search results which will cause you to lose your search engine rankings.?They will also flag your website for hacking so that when anyone visits your website within a Google Chrome web browser, they'll receive a red screen warning about visiting your website.?There's no bigger turnoff for a prospect than to see that warning.?If you're running any PPC campaigns for lead generation, those will also get automatically suspended.

2)?RED FLAGS BY ANTIVIRUS PROGRAMS:?Other antivirus programs (such as Norton, AVG, McAfee, etc) will also flag your website and display warnings to anyone that has those antivirus programs installed on their computer that attempt to visit your website.??

3)?DOMAIN NAME SUSPENSION:?It's possible that your domain name registrar (like GoDaddy) will actually SUSPEND your domain name.?If they suspend your domain name for website hacking, the result will be your website going down and possibly your company email accounts. Recovering your domain name with Godaddy could take many business days.

4)?LEAD?DATA IS COMPROMISED:?Prospective customer information within your website, such as information submitted through contact forms, could be compromised within the hacking.?

5)?WEBSITE MANIPULATION:?A hacker can manipulate your website in many ways, such as:

a.?Defacing:?A hacker defaces your website with something obscene.?If this happens, it'll be really bad for your brand.

b.?Spam Emails:?A hacker can manipulate your website so it's a mechanism that sends large amounts of spam email.?This spam email is then sent to unsuspecting?people in an attempt to scam them.

c.?Spoofed Pages:?A hacker can manipulate your website to create pages that look like login screens for banks, and then when unsuspecting people find these pages through spam messages and attempt to enter their bank login, their information is stolen by the hacker and more problems arise.?

Could you imagine if the website of your company was the root source of this type of scam??Your business could find its way into an FBI investigation for identity theft.

Please realize that if you're a business owner, you need to have COMPLETE CONFIDENCE that the website design company that is hosting and managing your web presence is?on top of their game.

If you don't know, then you should definitely have a conversation with them. You could have a ticking time bomb on your hands.

Lastly, please note that the size of your business does not protect you from a hacker.

From startups to large corporations, hackers are looking for your weak spots at all times, especially during weekends and holidays when you aren't paying attention.
