He quit his job with the gut feeling to follow his inner calling...
Straight from the GUT written by Jack Welch. I remember reading his book long back and the decisions he took.
Meet our story from Vadodra a Tier 2 city from Gujarat. A nice peaceful and calm city. I met Mayur Bhuva in Vadodra whilst I had gone on a family vacation. People said why are you traveling to Vadodra what is there in Vododra. Little did they know that I will be meeting Mayur Bhuva and he will be part of our book Dhool Dhoop Dhakka Entrepreneurship by Design.
Mayur had to leave Vadodra for his graduation, little did he know that he will have to go Coimbatore to study. A city 1600 kms from this home town. Life takes you to unknown places, there is a reason. You will need to keep putting your effort in whatever you do. Here he learnt the languages and adapted to a totally different culture, which came handy when he jumped to become an entrepreneur. Mayur had a great career in Samsung, Reebok and Nokia. These jobs gave him the opportunity to travel to many states. This helped him understand each states culture, buyer’s mindset, understand what the customers are looking for.
One fine day his instinct said that he has to do something on his own and not work someone else. He had no idea but his burning desire was to be on his own. He quit his job and left to Vadodra. He told his parents that he has quit his job and he now wants to do something on his own. They were shocked with his decision. A non-business Gujarati family was stunned but supported his decision.
He had no idea as well what he wanted to do. He finally got into laser cutting work and started Lasercut Steel Works. He did not know much about the business and developed specialized knowledge. He worked relentlessly for four years to make the company profitable. Lasercut Steel Works makes architectural facades, orthopedic equipment parts, transformers, retail design product. The initial year’s profits were reinvested in the business, so that they can scale their production. His dedication and sacrifice was so deep that he did not go out with his family for a movie in the first four years. This shows dedication, financial discipline and focus he had in the initial years. Lasercut Steel Works invested on machinery for scaling up whilst people were watching during the COVID19 pandemic situation. They are first one to get this machine in India. His vision for the future is clear. He says, I am getting ready to grab the large opportunity which is coming rather than thinking if I had done this then. An entrepreneur need to visualize think ahead of the competition. If you are ready for long term then think big. He also invented the Sanitizer dispensing machine during COVID19 for housing societies and corporates.
Mayur is an entrepreneurial entrepreneur. Mayur also mentors startups. He was one of the mentors for Economic Times Power of Ideas contest which used to promote startup ideas. Mayur says,
· Manufacturing is capital intensive but is more profitable when you do it right
