Gut Check
Are you in the right sales seat?
How often have you pondered whether sales is the career for you or not?
Most of us didn't get into sales because we studied it in school. Maybe some did but not many. We have to pay bills when we get out of school and somehow we got into sales.
Maybe it's a way to climb the ladder but for most of us that isn't the plan. My opinion of course.
I was lucky and found sales when I was 20 and decided it was a career to be had. 41 years strong now. The most important aspect to deciding on a sales career is to know your personality. If you are honest with yourself about the way you are, you will have a chance to pick the right selling venue.
If you are outgoing and hate to be cooped up in an office then outside sales could be your calling. If you are Type A personality then being inside probably isn't your calling.
Once you are able to use your talents with the right sales environment, the sales profession becomes a great profession with endless opportunities. If you get into sales and aren't matching your personality to the right sales venue likely you will be turned off to it and never experience the type of personal freedom it offers.
Make sure you do a gut check with yourself and go where your personality will fit the best. Not where the best offer is, but where the best opportunity for your personality is. More than likely the passion will follow!

6 年Great article. You can’t cage the A personality in a office. Outside sales provides many opportunities for the right person.
