Scared of feedback??
What will you do when your boss or client criticizes your work?
You can fear feedback, but you cannot avoid it. No matter how brilliant you are - you will still be criticized. Whatever you do, people will still criticize you. It’s not because something is wrong with you, but because there’s always room to grow.? Nobody is perfect. It sounds cliche, but it’s true. Besides, you don’t have to be perfect to thrive in this industry. All you have to do is to have the ability to learn, adapt, and improve.?
Oddie Randa, Gushcloud's APAC Managing Director, shared this wisdom on embracing feedback and how it can help you to improve:
“You can learn a lot about a lot of things through any type of feedback and criticism. Whether it’s positive, negative, constructive, or non-constructive.”
Oddie is right. We can learn a lot from any type of feedback and criticism, but the problem is, it seems like it's our human nature to sometimes see criticism in a negative light. There are people who view it as an attack or a form of discouragement that can make them feel? inadequate or defensive. This kind of mindset can hinder our growth.
In the field of education, educators are giving feedback to inform the students about their output or performance. It comes in various forms such as verbal, written or face-to-face. The feedback that they give to the learners help to assess their strengths and weaknesses, to serve as a guidance on discovering and unleashing their potential and talents.
However, learning does not stop when you finish school and learning is beyond the classroom. You still have to keep on learning to develop your knowledge and skills by experiences and learning.
Change the way you perceive criticism.?
Feedback and criticism is not a bad thing. It's actually an opportunity to serve as a roadmap to improvement and refinement of our skills, processes, or strategies. It can also provide clear insights on what we need to work on and challenge us to do better. However, we must also know how to? filter out noise from what truly matters.?
Embracing criticism and learning from feedback can help us recognize blind spots. It can reveal things that we may have overlooked. With clear insights, we can reconsider steps to improve our output and develop our strengths. As we embrace feedback, we can foster humility, resilience and adaptability which are invaluable in any industry. Having a growth mindset can help you grow professionally and personally.
Why do criticism and feedback matter in the entertainment industry?
Trends shift, audience preferences evolve, and client expectations change in the vibrant world of entertainment. In order to stay ahead in this industry, you must be open minded to feedback — even the harsh and negative feedback. It can be a bitter pill to swallow, but you really don’t have to get the negativity into your system.?
We should learn to separate emotions from feedback to make sure that negativity will not you down and learn from what we could improve. Feedbacks can also push us to think outside the box and explore new creative direction that can flourish our craft. Any comments --- whether it's from fans, collaborators, or industry professionals teach us something that will be helpful in navigating this competitive industry. Embracing criticism with grace can also build a deeper connection with audiences or clients by understanding what they really need and want, so we can deliver the right campaign to the right audiences.
Listen to feedback and criticism is a wonderful opportunity to collaborate with clients, audiences, and the people we're working with. It can challenge us to continuously adapt to changing landscapes and produce contents that will resonate and create a positive impact.
At Gushcloud, we are actively cultivating a culture of growth and openness, actively taking feedback and criticism to challenge ourselves to be and do better. Our stakeholders' insights serve as a cornerstone of our growth. We are eager to turn all kinds of feedbacks and criticism into power that will drive our creativity and strengthen collaboration as we create more impactful projects and achieve more success.
