The Guru Shishya Parampara
“The art of teaching is simple. Be compassionate. Be loving. Be peaceful. Be harmony. Be joyous.”
I consider myself as a life long learner. And there are loads of things which keep happening in my life for the first time. Each first time brings a treasure trove of experiences which I easily spin together to make my life happier.
Such a first time happened with me a few days ago. One of my students found me through Facebook and contacted me. I couldn’t recollect Sakshi Sehgal’s face. I used to teach her around 12-13 years back. She remembered me as her English teacher. She narrated some of the incidents that had happened with me then. I was so happy that she remembered not only the outline but the details of also. She kept spinning the tales and I kept adding yarn to them. But I could not remember her face.
She kept saying that she would visit me and I kept wondering about her dedication and her eagerness to meet me. I also desparately wanted to reconnect with her and through her the other students of the same batch.
Finally today she came to meet me. And when I saw her, I immediately recalled everything about her and the class and the other students. My little Sakshi with two plaits and bright eyes had turned into a graceful young lady.
All these years seemed to freeze into some beautiful moments where we laughed and we shared memories.
In the entire time I spent with her, I could see respect pouring for me. She’s a good listener. She kept asking and the raucous talkative that I turn into, I kept speaking endlessly about whatever I remembered. I adore her for the respect that she bestowed upon me. I had heard that students remember their teachers if you truly give them a part of you selflessly. I saw it turning true in front of my eyes.
The guru shishya parampara is a blessed one not only in Indian tradition but around the world. And this beautiful relationship will grow strong as time passes.
I received the best Teacher’s Day gift ahead of 5th September.
A very Happy Teacher’s Day to everyone well in advance.
