I'm back!
One month has passed since my last newsletter, and what a month it's been.
You know, I’d love to update you on what's been going on, but I think it's best to get straight into business - breaking down business bullsh*t.?
It was such a hit the first time around - remember to share with those who may enjoy it as much as you!
For a quick refresh - this newsletter analyses business failures, myths, misconceptions and more. Last month I spoke about Blockbuster and broke down what went wrong; read it here.?
Introducing month 2: Guru business transformation bullsh*t
I don't know about you, but I'm fed up with seeing the posts, tweets and courses that promise you that you can level up your business or life in "these ten steps".?
The ten steps (or whatever number) are often vague and differ from the reality of running a business - they make it sound effortless for a quick like or sale.
Changing your mindset, becoming grounded, or overcoming hardships can't be promised quickly and does not come from a lunchtime break and walk.?
These business owners know it takes more than simple steps, a morning routine, a couple of books, documentaries, or stating 'you need a system'.
It takes months, if not years of dedication, hard work, delegation, automation, strategic planning and much more.
Plus - it’s not so much what you do (as everyone finds what works best for them), it’s knowing how to effectively use SMART goals around what you want to do. You need to recognise what you need to change (due to it preventing you from progressing), and then bridging the gap between knowing what to do, doing it once, being consistent and becoming who you want to be.?
Examples of posts I HATE:
0 talk about how to use these documentaries (if it works for you), how long you will need to remain consistent, and how to use them to drive change.
I don't believe stating these 'concepts' positions you as a leader, and it traps people into thinking they can run a business easily or feel like a failure when it doesn't work.
If only it were as simple as 'doubling your money'. We can't compound aspects of our business by simply stating it.
Tell the reader HOW to compound aspects of their business, the minimum time it will realistically take and how they can work on themselves to achieve this.
Clickbait at its best. Deception by statistics.
So insightful. I now know how to become successful.

I am trying to figure out what is worse: how misleading this is or ignorant it is to assume how insignificant daily struggles must be to improve our lives in under 30 minutes.
The point is, online, you will come across plenty of bullsh*t. I'll be transparent with you. No successful business or team came from 30 minutes of improving your life.
Clickbait posts, resolutions and statements can be explained by Experiential Avoidance. Yes - I'm about to psychoanalyse this; it comes from my psychotherapy background.?
Experiential Avoidance is "broadly defined as attempts to avoid thoughts, feelings, memories, physical sensations, and other internal experiences—even when doing so creates harm in the long run."
Many of us don't want to accept that change takes time, patience and dedication. We know that having to commit to actions of change results in us feeling apprehensive, anxious and adverse to committing. So, we believe in these quick fixes and hacks to avoid feeling this way.
We are often our own worst enemies and the reason we do not progress.
If you're serious about making a change in your personal and professional life, research shows that you need to commit to a minimum of 12 weeks of actionable change.
These clickbait posts should seek more credibility by advocating for consistency and commitment instead of quick methods to try.
They're likely trying to sell you a mediocre product instead of something that gives you tools for self-therapy, encouragement, accountability and learning.?
There are various variables when it comes to a successful, growing and prosperous business. Or when it comes to a team that communicates well, works well together, is headed by a strong leader who can make good decisions, and creates a healthy company.?
Not to mention a credible operational plan covering all core business areas. It would be best if you also had a sound-minded and capable leader.?
I've spent years experiencing business failures, burnt-out CEOs and teams, and unfortunately, it's not a quick fix.?
I've been a part of million-dollar businesses that are not built from seven easy steps.?
Over-simplifying leads to disappointment, the feeling of failure, and costs many business owners thousands.?
Even though I am simplifying what it truly takes, if you'd like to learn more and have a support system during the growth of your business check out my Recalibrate Online 12-week course.
Instead of 10 second business bullsh*t you’ll receive:
I'm not here to diminish your hope of running a successful business; I want you to have an insight into what it takes and to plan appropriately. Refrain from buying into clickbait posts or e-books. You'll save time and money if you realistically approach business or team management.
What's the worst business bullsh*t quick fix you've seen? I'd love to know.
That's it for this newsletter. See you around for the next!
