GUN TO YOUR HEAD!
I’ve worked with a few executive coaches and loved them. One, however, gave me a challenge that went like this:?
“If you absolutely had to hit your revenue goal 30 days from now, if failure was not an option whatsoever, what would you do?”
A similar challenge popped up on my instagram feed recently, featuring a tanned and muscular guy in tight clothes yelling at the audience:?
“If a gunman was aiming at your family’s heads right now and threatened to shoot unless you double your revenue, what would you do to double your revenue?”
These tech-bro analogies are not only corny, they’re comparing apples to oranges.
What would I do if you pointed a gun at my family? Gee I don’t know, probably compromise my entire moral system in a desperate and violent effort to save them.?
Thankfully, growing professionally doesn’t require such nonsense. Compromising my value system out of desperation is not on the table when it comes to my career or business.?
Instead I’m gonna apply myself consistently and diligently to a clear set of objectives over time while having fun.?
I don’t “grow” my business, my business grows itself when I solve hard problems for clients and constantly improve.?
Same goes for your career. You can force it (certainly some people do)…
…or you can just make a plan, adjust as needed, and keep it moving.?
Mute the motivational gurus for a bit, read a little Vizi Andrei, and let good things happen.
Solid advice! Sometimes a little relaxation and focus can work wonders. ??
