Gun Stocks Drop Since Trump’s Election: Why You Should Care

Gun Stocks Drop Since Trump’s Election: Why You Should Care

Another title I was considering to title this email was, "How To Find Opportunity in Change"

Or another, more accurate, working title:

"How to Find Opportunity in Fear"

So let's get back to the original title.

I read a recent Financial Times article titled, "Gun stocks pack less heat since Trump’s election" where the article said now that gun owners are no longer afraid of legislation limiting their ability to buy guns, gun sales have dropped since Trump's election.

The article goes on to say that gun sales were at their highest under the Obama administration since gun owners were fearful of legislation limiting their ability to purchase guns.

What's the lesson?

Fear created opportunity and now the lack of fear may hinder its future growth.

If you are in the firearms business, you might need to brush up on your resume and lay offs may be coming. The irony is the prior administration was good for the gun business, but that may be changing based on sales over the last 30 days.

Are you in an industry where your job can be adversely affected by the change in the world?

On the flip side, are you in an industry that could expand and grow because of the fear arising from upcoming changes?

According to a Washington Post article on 11/30/2016 titled, "Unprecedented in our history: Trump's election inspired millions of nonprofit donations."

There are people who are afraid of the upcoming change and they are fueling millions into non-profits that previously scrambled for donations.

Fear creates opportunity, yet again.

Now may be the time to shift to a nonprofit organization, if you always had that dream. Many nonprofits may now be flush with cash and needing extra hands-on-deck for the cause. If that's your thing, of course.

To be clear, this isn't a political post. You can be happy or you can be sad about the change coming in the world.

No one is telling you how to feel.

What I am telling you is to look for the opportunity in that change and be ready for it.

And a good place to start looking for opportunity is to look where the fear is...
